One of its aims is to challenge the idea that Soviet Communism and high quality modern jazz were mutually exclusive. 'Elastic Rock II' is a follow-up to Elastic Rock: A Survey of Jazz-Rock in Europe, 1968-80 and is an appraisal of jazz-rock in three further geographical areas during its most creative period, 1968-1980. The major part of the coverage consists of an A-Z survey of over 130 bands/artists from The Americas, Japan and Australasia. It concludes with a list of 51 Essential Jazz-Rock albums from the three regions. As with Elastic Rock I, the book is written in an accessible style and is aimed at both seasoned jazz-rockers and newcomers to the genre.

‘Zappa(s)’ takes a thematic approach to Frank Zappa’s work and approaches him as a satirist, Postmodernist, guitarist, composer, outsider and influence on other (European) musicians. It argues that certain parts of his vast recorded output are of more interest than others and tries to identify what he was good at and, conversely, what he may have been thought to be good at but perhaps wasn’t. As with Tony Adam’s earlier book on European jazz-rock, ‘Zappa(s)’ is written in an accessible style and geared to newcomers to the music as well as older hands.

Change Is… surveys 50 musicians/groups that helped to establish modern jazz in Britain. These include familiar names – Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes, John Dankworth – as well as lesser-known figures deserving of wider recognition. The book includes a section on the early development of British modern jazz as well as a list of 50 essential recordings from the period 1953-73. The ‘Polish Jazz’ series consists of 76 LP’s released by Poland’s state-controlled Polskie Nagrania Muza label between the years 1965 and 1989. 76 Records assesses each album and provides a list of 21 of the very best. The series was reactivated in 2016 and Muza, now owned by Warner Brothers, has added further volumes which are considered in the ‘Postludium’.
