In 1962 Sara Regan and her friend Alina plan an escape for her their friend Anita, a Magdalene girl at the St Mary Magdalene asylum. After the escape plan fails, Sara and Alina are sent to the asylum and subjected to abuse and torment at the hands of the Nun's. Sara forms a strong relationship with the girl's in the dormitories and tries hard to follow the strict regime.
