Only once in the history of human consciousness, says Osho, has a thing like Zen come into being. In this talk Osho is asked whether or not he is ever bored with life. In reply he says it is one of the most significant questions to be asked. He says only man can be bored; no other animal has the capacity. Boredom is a by-product of intelligence, and nothing is wrong with boredom. No animal is bored because no animal is bothered about meaning, no animal is concerned about creativity. Only idiots are not bored – or the enlightened ones, but they are few and far between. What is the secret behind boredom?

Political revolutions have never resulted in the changes they promised. Real change can according to Osho only come from a personal rebellion, a rebellion based on "yes" - yes to existence, yes to nature, yes to yourself. Humanity has been guided by traditions which are all life-negative - the results of endless wars, a planet in danger and a humanity losing direction are obvious results of these traditions.

When the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche talks about "will to power", it has nothing to do with the will to dominate. To understand a man like Nietzsche, you have to have at least the same standard of consciousness, if not higher.

In the past, science and meditation were considered poles apart, if not adversarial. Osho describes love as transformation. It is painful because it transforms and transformation is going to be painful because the old has to be left for the new. While the old is familiar, secure, safe, the new is absolutely unknown. With love we will be moving in an uncharted ocean.

"The World Is on Fire" is the title of the first chapter in this new fifth volume of The Dhammapada, Osho’s contemporary presentation of the sayings of Buddha. What does Buddha mean by fire? He means anguish, anxiety, despair, misery; that's what Buddha means by fire. It is a symbol. Everybody is on fire because everybody is divided, split, schizophrenic. Meera naav ban sakti hai. Meera ke shabd tumhe doobne se bachaa sakte hain. Unke sahare par us paar ja sakte ho.

“You are miserable because you have decided to be miserable” – hard words and difficult so see let alone to admit, that our misery is self-created, a strategy, something that we unconsciously cultivate because it works for us; it all allows us to avoid responsibility. And if we are willing to face it and to take responsibility for our misery we are freed from it. As simple as that.

The word Christ came into existence 300 years after Jesus; and out of the word Christ developed Christian and Christianity. While Friedrich Nietzsche stated that Christ was the last Christian, according to Osho, Jesus was not only the last Christian, but he was also the first Christian–the first and the last Christian, because in this world no individual is ever repeated.

Osho sees Zen not as a historical spiritual tradition but as the future spirituality of a humanity that has matured to the point that people no longer need religions controlled by priesthoods and based on fearful superstitions that cripple people's innate intelligence and divide them from one another.
