About this listen

Infinite power at your fingertips—but will it be enough?

Following her victory against the aliens in Washington, Anya Nowicki has allied herself with the Department of Extraterrestrial Research and Defense: a newly formed organization headed by the shrewd Director MacDougal. Other hosts for the Archive, like Anya, have also joined the DERD, dedicating their time and efforts to honing their supernatural abilities and searching for whatever aliens remain on Earth.

The hostile creatures known as gnosiphages have gone into hiding, but they have not remained idle. Hosts have been vanishing overnight, along with many civilians all across the globe. Something is still out there, stalking mankind, building its own power. It will take everything Anya has, and all her friends working together, to save the Earth from the apocalyptic crisis rushing towards it.

a great sequel to the 1st book

The story is fine, no real mistake or egregious discrepancies or anything. If you liked the first one you will like this one as well. For me though, i think i am really tired of reading/listening to stories where everything seems contrived to make the MC the only solution to all problems. It starts to make the story really predictable. Also this particular MC has a hero complex and a holier than thou attitude that can be really grating at times. Naive muscle head seems like an apt description. No character in this book is capable of doing anything without the MC pretty much stealing the show . (shrug) i just kept getting frustrated when opportunities for others to shine kept getting interrupted by Anya running in to take care of everything herself.

I find i am kind of tired of this type of story.

On the surface, this book comes with all of the hallmarks of LitRPG/Progression Fantasy: cool powers, epic fight scenes, big bosses, and the usual world saving stuff. If what you’re looking for is a fun read this can absolutely fit the bill. What really elevates this story for me, however, are the layers right beneath all of that.

Each character has their own set of motivations. Many are altruistic, but there are still plenty out for themselves and their own agendas. It does a great job of setting up for the future and adds a fantastic amount of interesting complexity into an already great story.

Intriguing and Exciting

One of the best books audiobooks in the litrpg. Book 1 was great. This. This was amazing, and had one of the most suspenseful, well-written endings I've read in this genre. Only book 2 and this series has me hooked hard.

This has got to be...

I love this series. Every character is so distinct and consistent. It’s really nice to see. There’s also a degree of subtlety that you don’t usually get in this genre, when it comes to foreshadowing and subverting expectations. Really lovely stuff

Well done. No issues. I am eager to start the next one, and hope there will be many more.

I really like this series

One general is dead. Two to go. The hero continues to gather allies and scouts the world to solve the mystery of where the aliens are and where people disappearing are going. Cue the mind controlling aliens and the fight is on. They stop the body snatchers but now they must save a city about to be crushed by the last general. And that includes ungrateful politicians twisting tragedy to vilify the heroes and give themselves power. They kill the aliens on Earth but discover the off world ones are coming in mass with a world ender. So they race to space for an epic finale. They succeed with a price.

A great second installment. It continues with a great pace, addictive story, nice world building and growth, and an awesome narrator

Fun
