About this listen

When a Demonic Assault occurs, most people stuck inside of a Fracture end up hiding inside of a bunker in the hopes that they don’t get killed by a demon.

Others might even hope for the slightest possible chance at signing a contract with a spirit and becoming a Guardian.

So when Scarlet was caught in a Fracture, the last thing she expected was to become a demon herself. Exactly two centuries ago, humanity was struck with their very first Demonic Assault. The skies above the capital of the US, shattering as if made of glass; demons of all kinds appearing out of nowhere; and no way to effectively stop them before the end of the Assault.

On the brink of devastation, some of the humans managed to find themselves offered a contract whilst inside of a Fracture. One bringing a chance at power, fame, and fortune.

Now, long after every nation of the world joined together to form the Terran Republic, Scarlet finds herself stuck trying to find a university from the Republic’s capital that will accept someone from a lower tier city into their midst. But, as if that wasn’t already enough trouble for one person to bear, she somehow ends up stuck in one of the Fractures of a Demonic Assault while visiting her father figure’s company building.

However, she doesn't perish in the darkness and instead awakens her dormant bloodline as a noble demon. A Blood Lycan.

Turns out she had been a demon all along and had been born for the apocalypse.

Fun, action packed story and great world building.

This was a very good story from start to finish. The pacing was great, and the world was presented in a way that made you want to learn more about it. The characters are well developed with plenty of space for growth through the story while being flawed in realistic and understandable ways. I'd initially expected the story to have a younger cast based on the cover, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the primary cast to be early university aged young adults.

The story had a lot of litrpg crunch, sometimes more than I'd prefer, but the main characters progress was very well documented with it, and it give good look into the system the story will use moving forward.

I really enjoyed the narrators. They did a wonderful job bringing the character to life and their tandem work was put together very well.

I definitely recommend the book and I'm really looking forward to the next one!

Brooding Orphan? Sure. But I’m Hooked.

I was a little hesitant at first—the main character didn’t seem to have much personality and spent a lot of time brooding, throwing herself a pity party about being an orphan.

Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating her quirks a bit.

But as the story played out, I actually grew to like her—and her standoffish personality. The book drops plenty of hints about her lineage, and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to wait for a sequel to get answers. You learn what’s going on and why her upbringing was so rough—though not everything is revealed, which is fine. Gotta save some mystery for the sequels.

And yes, there are sequels! At the time I’m posting this, I know of six books in total. Shame book one is the only one with an audiobook… guess it’s time to dust off the old Kindle and start reading ahead.

Yes—I enjoyed this series enough that it’s worth reading manually.

There’s loads of action, which is fun—though I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out on books with nonstop fight scenes lately. I’ve started to enjoy world-building, dialogue, and character growth more, and this story does a solid job balancing all of that… even if it leans a bit heavy on the action. That said, the action-forward pacing probably won’t be a drawback for most listeners.

Don’t be fooled by the earlier chapters—this book is about a magical academy… it just takes FOREVER to get there. If I had one complaint, that would be it. But hey, it’s all about the journey, not the destination—and I still really enjoyed it.

I did notice a few small performance quirks, like swallowing sounds during the narration, but with noise-canceling headphones, I’ve picked up on similar things in audiobooks I’ve re-listened to before that I never noticed the first time.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and honestly don’t have anything too negative to say about it—at least, nothing I’d knock a star off for.

Me likey

I took a chance on this book and I did not regret it. It was very entertaining a light the main character a lot her personality is great. The only semi complaint I have is that for people who going to places where people get slaughtered they seem way too free and non chalant

Like, what?

First off do not be fooled for the high reviews like I was. I'm not saying this is a bad book. But man that narrator tho smh, specifically the female one. This is now the second story read by her that I've returned simply because I'm tired of being able to hear this woman clear her throat when she's reading. It is so damn immersion breaking that it's not even funny. And I mean it's constant, like why isn't that stuff edited out. I don't know, I guess this might be a decent story if you make it through. But I'm like 10 plus chapters in and I'm just not feeling it smh.
