Feels Abridged

This story is okay. The plot moves very quickly, and skips over events or conventions which would normally be in a book. Basically no character back story.

Wow! Soooooooo amazing! Just friggintastic!

Wow! Amazing! I was purdy sure this would be fun 🙃 'cause it was a litRPG one of my favorite genre's. And when it comes to narrators Peter Berkrot is always a good choice, as he always gives a 100% in his vocally prefected performance.
This is Will's, Will of Blackbriar's story. He knows that inorder to get stronger he has'ta fight the Goblin horde on the front line's and after being accepted by the 3rd Auxiliary he went to town, leveling as fast as he could... and following the quest line. Turns out that Will is a gifted fighter leveling even faster than veteran's that have been at it for years! He also has the ears of both Hadrian Blackthorne and Count Basset Heir Dacon. And unfortunately he's garnered the interest of the inquisition.
So yeah grab the audiobook and enjoy this rip-roaring litRPG.

Great listen

Exciting and engaging. Kept my attention for the whole book. Likable characters that got me invested and a very interesting storyline. I am cheering for Will and look forward to more of his adventure in book 2. Can’t wait!

they did a great job on this one

They did a great job on this one. The story itself was simply not my cup of tea. I would recommend it.

Enjoyable story. Gritty, dark.

This story kept my attention. It makes me think of a gritty and dark version of something written by James Haddock, whose books I tend to enjoy. Definitely much rougher and bloodier than Haddock, but I like that sometimes, too.

The setup is there for sequels, though, none are listed on audible at the time of this writing, but it's published by Aethon, so, a series is almost guaranteed. All that to say, I'll be keeping an eye out for more books in a series.

Typical millennial writing

There's a lot of reasons but in the end I just don't like this style of writing. well, probably not get the next book. If I remember how I felt about this one.

Mid

There is a decent story in there somewhere but I didn’t get excited about anything. So a solid filler book for a dry spell.

Oh another battle, yay....

I'ma start by saying this isn't a bad* book but....

1. The stats don't matter at all, remove them and nothing would change.

2. this feels like a book 2, the MC starts at like lvl 10 and it skips over and never goes into detail why they joined the army beyond, I wanna kill shit, how they got there, how they got this super awesome ability that everyone would kill for but never does anything other than a glorified quest marker, or much of anything really is explained, ever.

3. the book is one endless fight scene, the author seems to skip over key details like, location, strategy, how the MC even arrived at the fight, like he just seems to arrive next to the leader of an army insults them and kills them. no description how he got past the rest of the entire enemy army. I suppose we could assume the enemy leader was just standing there alone picking his nose, which, honestly seems to be the case.

4. what is actually happening? seriously. Spoiler alert** mc joins army to kill stuff, he kills stuff, he supposedly gets stronger?, kills stuff, gets promoted, kills stuff, rages at everyone, kills stuff, somehow doesn't get insta killed even though everyone around him is, kills stuff, kisses a woman, books over.
....
Again this isn't a bad* book but it really isn't good either. maaaaybe book 2 will be better, idk, maybe I'll find out if I have nothing better to do than watch paint dry.

Surprisingly great

I honestly didn't know what to expect when picking this up - most LitRPG these days feel like a crapshoot, but this one turned out to be surprisingly great.

I loved Will as a character. Though I personally prefer my MCs to be a bit more psycopathic and badass, the fact that the author wrote one that was more grounded and 'everyman,' while also still making him a badass deserves huge props.

I think my only issues are that the LitRPG elements felt really tacked on and meaningless (what does 8% extra damage even mean?!), and that the worldbuilding fell a little flat.

Can't wait to see where the next one goes.
