In late 1913, Carl Jung set out on an exploration of his psyche, a quest he called his "confrontation with the unconscious". Erich Neumann was one of C. G. Jung's most creative students and a renowned practitioner of analytical psychology in his own right. Carl Jung held an interest in occult phenomena from the start of his professional career.
