"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!

Little Bobby was the only son of a small farmer who lived out of town upon a country road. It was lonely on the farm, especially when his father and mother were both busy working, but the boy found a special way to amuse himself. He was very fond of music, and his father one day brought him a small fiddle, which he soon learned to play. Bobby enjoyed learning new tunes and the fiddle soon became his constant companion. The Emerald City of Oz (1910) was the sixth Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, a title he hoped would be the last. In this book, Dorothy and her impoverished Uncle Henry and Aunt Em are on the brink of losing their Kansas farm. Consequently, Ozma invites them all to live in the Emerald City. They then explore the countryside, visiting a series of strange beings including the Cuttenclips, the Fuddles, the Rigmaroles, the Flutterbudgets, and the residents of Utensia, Bunbury and Bunnybury.

The Road to Oz takes Dorothy on an adventure in Oz to a grand party in honor of Ozma's birthday. It starts near her home on Uncle Henry's farm in Kansas when she helps a shaggy stranger find the road he is seeking. On the way they find a young boy, Button-Bright, and together they get lost, only to find themselves in the fairylands of Oz.

Little Miss Muffet learns a very valuable lesson about minding ones manners when she leaves her country home for adventure. Finding chores at a nearby farmhouse tedious, she sits beneath a tree with her dinner and encounters a fearsome spider that sends her fleeing back to the safety of her privileged life.

While playing outside on the farm in Kansas, Dorothy, and Toto happen upon the Shaggy Man, who asks for directions to Butterfield. The pair is happy to show him the way, but the road splits into seven different paths and Dorothy is unsure which is the correct choice. After some debate, the group decides to take the seventh path where they run into an adorable little boy named Button Bright who cannot seem to stop getting lost. Further down the road, they encounter Polychrome, who is the daughter of the Rainbow.

The Marvelous Land of Oz begins soon after the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and follows the adventures of a young boy named Tip exploring a world where everything has been turned upside down after the departure of Dorothy. When Dorothy left, her friends the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman were given rulership over the Emerald City and the Winkie Kingdom. But the Scarecrow’s rule of the Emerald City has been overthrown by an all-girl army, and Tip is recruited along with the Tin Woodman to help him get the city back.

An imaginative work first published in 1902, L. Frank Baum’s The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus tells the story of Claus, an orphaned boy raised by various immortal creatures in an enchanted forest. When he reaches adulthood, Claus is told to live among mortals; he is disheartened initially by poverty, war, and other negative aspects of humanity. He becomes well-known for his kindness to children, and this enthusiasm leads to the invention of the first toys.

Everyone knows about Santa Claus of course and his wonderful trip around the world on the night before Christmas. But what about his early life? Where was he born? What was he like as a youth?
