Tras un día desastroso de competiciones deportivas en el instituto, Greg decide que se retira oficialmente de su carrera como atleta, pero acaba aceptando a regañadientes la sugerencia de su madre de apuntarse a baloncesto. Dicen que viajar por carretera en familia es algo muy divertido...a no ser que se trate de los Heffley. Al principio el trayecto promete, pero no tardan en aparecer unos cuantos problemas inesperados. La gasolinera con los baños cerrados, un cerdito descontrolado, gaviotas enloquecidas...nada que se parezca, ni remotamente, a la idea que tiene Greg de pasarlo bien. Pero incluso el peor viaje en coche se puede convertir en una aventura ¡y esta parece que va a ser difícil de olvidar!

Weihnachten steht vor der Tür - eigentlich doch wunderbare Aussichten. Aber nicht für Greg, dem ist das zu viel Druck. Schließlich muss man sich in der Vorweihnachtszeit immer extra gut benehmen. Besonders seit seine Mutter diese gruselige Puppe rausgeholt hat, die für den Weihnachtsmann spioniert, und die dauernd woanders hockt und Greg beobachtet... Zu allem Übel werden die Heffleys dann auch noch von einem Schneesturm überrascht und eingeschneit. So bleibt die Familie im Haus gefangen. Der Strom fällt aus, das Essen wird knapp, und alle gehen sich kräftig auf den Wecker... Stellt sich die Frage: Gibt es eine schlimmere Strafe, als mit der eigenen Familie eingesperrt zu sein? Da heißt es: Nerven behalten. Nur keine Panik!
