Při vyklízení jeho pokoje objeví syn hostinského Jim Hawkins v truhle mapu, na které je zakreslena cesta za tajuplným pokladem kapitána Flinta. Ukáže ji zemanovi Trelawneyovi a lékaři (a zároveň smírčímu soudci) Liveseyovi.
