"Glinda of Oz" is the fourteenth "Land of Oz" book written by L. Frank Baum, published in 1920. It is the last book of the original Oz series. Like most of the Oz books, the plot features a journey through some of the remoter regions of Oz; though in this case the pattern is doubled: Dorothy and Ozma travel to stop a war between the Flatheads and Skeezers; then Glinda and a cohort of Dorothy's friends set out to try to rescue them... Wonderful, eccentric, moving and funny as always!

"Wet Magic" is a children's novel by E. Nesbit, published in 1913. Four siblings travel to the seashore for a holiday. One of them accidentally summons the sister of a mermaid, captured by a circus; and the four children decide to try and save her... What follows is a fantastic and adventurous ride, full of challenges for the children in the underwater world of the mermaids!

"Jewels of Gwahlur" is one of the original tales starring the sword and sorcery hero Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by author Robert E. Howard. Set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age, it concerns several parties, including Conan, fighting over and hunting for the eponymous treasure in Hyborian Africa... As always, lots of action, appetizing but dangerous women and no shortage of suspense!

"Orthodoxy", published in 1908, is a book by author G. K. Chesterton, that has become a classic of Christian apologetics. In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words.

"The Road to Oz: In Which Is Related How Dorothy Gale of Kansas, The Shaggy Man, Button Bright, and Poly-chrome the Rainbow's Daughter Met on an Enchanted Road and Followed it All the Way to the Marvelous Land of Oz" is the fifth of L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books, published in 1909. As the long, complete title of the work says quite a bit about the wonderful proceedings in this work, there is no need for more than for the listener to just jump into it all and enjoy.

"The Misplaced Battleship" is a sci-fi short story by author Harry Harrison, published in 1960. James Bolivar DiGriz, alias "Slippery Jim" and "The Stainless Steel Rat", is a fictional character and the protagonist of a series of comic science fiction novels by the same author. "Slippery Jim" is the listener's wonderfully sly, funny and resourceful hero in this entertaining and amusing work; where he has to investigate and - hopefully! - solve the case of a dangerous battleship floating around unaccounted for.

"Shadows in the Moonlight" is starring the sword and sorcery hero Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian). The story is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan escaping to a remote island in the Vilayet Sea where he encounters the Red Brotherhood, a skulking creature, and mysterious iron statues. Oh, and there's also a slave girl named Olivia, once a princess of Koth, to keep Conan company on the island.

This is a hilarious collection of 35 of the master humorist Bill Nye's funniest pieces and stories; originally hundreds of newspaper columns and later assembled into books. Absolutely essential listening for those of us who have a sense of self deprecation and just plain good old sense of humor!

A work by the great Henry David Thoreau, originally published in 1849 as "Resistance to Civil Government". It is an essay in which Thoreau argues that individuals should not permit governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences, and that they have a duty to avoid allowing such acquiescence to enable the government to make them the agents of injustice. Thoreau was motivated in part by his disgust with slavery and the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).

"Ozma of Oz", published in 1907, was the third book of L. Frank Baum's Oz series. It was the first in which Baum was clearly intending a series of Oz books. The full and very long title of the work gives the listener a good idea of what pure delights to expect: "Ozma of Oz: A Record of Her Adventures with Dorothy Gale of Kansas, Billina the Yellow Hen, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, Tik-Tok, the Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger; Besides Other Good People too Numerous to Mention Faithfully Recorded Herein..."

"The Knights of Arthur" by Frederik Pohl, published in 1958, is a humorous sci-fi tale. The sum total population of the entire U.S. is now less than 10,000(!) as the listener is taken on a wildly funny ride, an Arthurian quest, actually; but of a very eccentric nature indeed, as Arthur is an entity with very strong and particular opinions... without body and limbs, by the way.

"I say that you ought to get rich, and it is your duty to get rich... The men who get rich may be the most honest men you find in the community. Let me say here clearly... ninety-eight out of one hundred of the rich men of America are honest. That is why they are rich. That is why they are trusted with money. That is why they carry on great enterprises and find plenty of people to work with them. It is because they are honest men..." This motivational lecture is one of the best and most enduring of all.

Roger W. Babson, a great statistician and one of the early important authors of business self-help literature, here explores how religious faith can act as the basis for reintegrating the values of industriousness, cooperation, and precious human resources into the tough business world.

"The People of the Black Circle" is one of the original books featuring Conan the Cimmerian (or Conan the Barbarian), written by American author Robert E. Howard. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan kidnapping a regal princess of Vendhya (pre-historical India) and foiling a nefarious plot of world domination by the Black Seers of Yimsha. Due to its epic scope and atypical Hindustan flavor, the story is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars.

Author Daniel O'Connor took the story from the original world famous and beloved play, with the approval of its author, J. M. Barrie; and shortened it into a book with music and illustrations. This shorter book treatment was published before Barrie wrote the longer novel Peter and Wendy, using the same plot and characters. You just never can get enough of Peter Pan!

"Beyond the Black River" is one of the original stories about Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by American author Robert E. Howard and published in 1935. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan fighting the savage Hyborian Picts in the unsettled lands beyond the infamous Black River... The story is considered one of Howard's very best (and most brutal) and features rather significantly a feral dog named Slasher that wins the deep respect of Conan!

"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!

"A Witch Shall Be Born" is one of the original novels by Robert E. Howard about Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian). The story concerns a witch replacing her twin sister as queen of a city state, which brings her into conflict with Conan who had been the captain of the queen's guard. Themes of paranoia, and the duality of the twin sisters are paramount in this story but it also includes elements of the conflict between barbarism and civilization that is common to the entire Conan series.

"The Night of the Long Knives" is an uncompromisingly bleak and rugged sci-fi novella by Fritz Leiber, published in 1960. America has been transformed into a nuclear hellhole called the "Deathlands", where the survivors must do just that - survive - by pillaging and killing... "I was one hundred miles from Nowhere - and I mean that literally - when I spotted this girl out of the corner of my eye.
