Moni the Goat-Boy written by Johanna Spyri (1827 - 1901): Moni is the goat boy who takes care of all the goats belonging to the people of Fideris, Switzerland. His favorite is a young kid named Mäggerli. One day Moni comes across a serious situation where he must keep a deceitful secret in order to protect Mäggerli from being killed. This delightful short story teaches children that to trust God and do right is always better than being deceitful.

First published in 1881, the subtitle of this book tells us that it was written “for children and those who love children”. Heidi, a 5-year-old orphan, is handed off by her young Aunt Dete to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Though her new life is foreign, Heidi soon falls in love with her grandfather, and he with her. They share a contented life of goat-herding. But when Grandfather refuses to allow Heidi to attend school in the small village below, quarrels ensue.

Moni, the goat boy, was a very cheerful young man who loved his job and his flock with all his heart. When young Paula first encounter's Moni's jubilant nature and happy song, she is captivated by his joy and becomes his friend. Moni spends each day up in the mountains with the goats and has a particularly special attachment to a kid named Maggerli. One day, Moni runs into a boy from another village who has discovered a beautiful diamond cross and the boy tells Moni that if he keeps his secret about the gross, he will buy Maggerli for Moni to save her from death.

Mit 8 Jahren wird sie nach Frankfurt, zu dem auf den Rollstuhl angewiesenen Mädchen Klara, zur Unterhaltung gebracht. Die beiden Mädchen freunden sich an. Doch das große Heimweh macht Heidi krank und sie wird zurück zu ihrem Großvater gebracht.

Heidi erkrankt jedoch vor Heimweh und muss auf Anraten des Arztes zu ihrem Großvater zurückgeschickt werden.

Die Geschichte der kleinen Heidi, die das Herz ihres einsiedlerischen Großvaters, des Almöhi, gewinnt, mit dem Geißenpeter über die Almwiesen springt und bei Klara in Frankfurt vor Heimweh nach den Bergen krank wird, begeisterte schon Generationen. Das Hörbuch mit beiden Teilen des Klassikers zaubert bis heute ein Lächeln ins Gesicht der Zuhörer.

Heidi is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature. This version is a delightful abridgment of the classic tale.

Heidi who has been orphaned, is taken from her alpine home with her beloved grandfather by her less than loving aunt to be a companion for a crippled child of a wealthy family in Frankfurt. They become bosom friends but Heidi becomes ill and has to return home, but when her crippled friend comes to the Alps for a visit, well, we don't want to spoil the story for you.
