• Rest in His Provision
    Jul 8 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

Burnout happens when we idolize what we do and ignore who we’re created to be. The Sabbath isn’t just about what we do or don’t do—it’s about who we worship. This week Pastor Eric teaches out of Exodus 16 and explains what is a Sabbath and how to keep it Holy.

    🔑 Key Takeaways

Sabbath Is God’s Gift of Rest

    📖 Exodus 16:22–23
God commanded His people to prepare on the sixth day so they could cease and rest on the seventh.

    🕊️ Definition (שׁבת - Shabbat):
To cease, stop, be absent, rest, celebrate.

Sabbath rest doesn’t happen by accident. You have to build it into your life.

Rest Flows From Identity, Not Performance

Christianity isn’t about self-improvement (you working on you).
It’s about spiritual transformation—God working in you.

There are three key differences between a slave and a child:

SlaveChild of GodWorks to earn approval | Lives from already being approved (Gal 4:6–7)
Strives for provision | Trusts in the Father’s provision (Rom 8:14–17)
Runs away in trouble | Runs to the Father in trouble (1 John 3:1–2)

✅ Sabbath Is a Faith Step, Not a Religious Rule

    📖 Exodus 16:24–26
God preserved what they prepared ahead of time—and no worms or stench this time.

Ceasing work for a day declares: “God is my Provider.”

The Sabbath refills the four key tanks in our lives:

    1. 🏃 Physical
    2. 💭 Mental
    3. 💓 Emotional
    4. 🙏 Spiritual

    What Sabbath Practically Looks Like:

    1. Dedicated time in God’s presence (Word, worship, prayer)
    2. Rest from physical labor
    3. Rest from mental stress/work
    4. Meal with family and community
    5. Reflect on God’s faithfulness and provision

    Sabbath Is a Creation Ordinance

    📖 Exodus 16:27–30
Some still went out to gather—but there was nothing. Disobedience led to lack, not abundance.

The blessing of giving your life to Jesus is found in:

    1. What you gain

    2. What you lose

Sabbath reminds us: God provides what we need when we trust His rhythm.

    A Legacy of Trust

    📖 Exodus 16:31–36
The manna was to be kept as a reminder of God’s provision for future generations.

When you practice Sabbath as a family, you declare to your children:
“We can rest in the finished work of Jesus because God takes care of us.”

  • How to Walk in Holiness Daily | Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    Jun 30 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

This week Pastor Eric dives into Exodus 16:9- 21, he shares how Christianity isn’t just about escaping hell but it’s about entering into a daily, personal relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

    🔑 Key Takeaways

God Invites You to Come Near – Not Because of You, But Because of Him

    • God hears our complaints but still calls us close.
    • His holiness, not our worthiness, is the reason we can approach Him.
    • Hardships may be God's tool to sanctify and prepare us.

✅ God Reveals His Glory Even When We Don’t Deserve It

    • The “glory of the Lord” (Kābôd) appeared in their wilderness.
    • God graciously provides signs and wonders despite grumbling.
    • Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God's glory.

Daily Encounters with God Are Essential

    • Manna symbolizes God's daily provision.
    • A "daily encounter" = intentional time in worship, prayer, Scripture, and response.
    • Parents should model this for their children.

Obedience to God Brings Wholeness – Partial Obedience Does Not

    • God gave specific instructions for gathering manna.
    • Disobedience led to corruption (manna spoiled).
    • Obedience is not legalism—it’s the pathway to life and holiness.

✅ Holiness Is a Daily Journey, Not a One-Time Decision

    • Manna had to be gathered morning by morning.
    • God designed us to depend on Him daily, not occasionally.
    • Holiness is cultivated through consistent relationship with God

The secret to walking in holiness daily is to respond to God by drawing near through repentance and faith, to walk in obedience as He directs not as culture or comfort dictates and to encounter Him daily through His Word, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.

  • How to Grieve the Holy Spirit | Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    Jun 24 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

In this week’s message, Pastor Eric explores Exodus 16, where Israel’s complaints in the wilderness reveal how quickly we lose sight of God’s past faithfulness when things get difficult. Despite their grumbling, God responds with mercy, providing manna from heaven and reminding us that gratitude and obedience invite His presence, while a complaining spirit grieves the Holy Spirit.

    🔑 Key Takeaways

    Grumbling Grieves the Holy Spirit

    • Complaining and bitterness replace faith and gratitude, which deeply grieve God's Spirit (Ephesians 4:30-31).

God Still Provides in Our Rebellion

    • Despite Israel’s complaints, God graciously gives manna and meat, showing His patience and provision.

    Sanctification Through Hardship

    • God uses the wilderness to test, refine, and sanctify His people, preparing them for their purpose.

Obedience Is the Response to Grace

    • Receiving God's provision (like manna) comes with a call to walk in obedience and trust.

    Gratitude Pleases the Spirit

    • Thankfulness, praise, and trust even in lack invite the Holy Spirit’s presence and power.

Looking Back Fondly on Bondage Is Dangerous

    • Desiring Egypt (sinful past) shows spiritual immaturity and offends the Spirit who leads us into freedom.

    God’s Ultimate Provision Is Christ

    • The manna foreshadows Jesus, the true Bread of Life, freely given but requiring daily, faithful reception.

Even when the Israelites complained in the wilderness, God responded with grace and provision, showing that He is patient, faithful, and uses hardship to grow our trust and dependence on Him.

  • When the Music Fades | Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    Jun 16 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

This week Pastor Eric teaches on how God uses the wilderness to sanctify us, transforming our bitterness into healing when we trust and obey Him. That true worship continues beyond the music, through hardship, and into His faithful provision.

    🔑 Key Takeaways:

Worship doesn’t end when the music stops—true worship continues in the wilderness when things get hard.

Bitterness is the result of unmet expectations, and it can blind us to God’s goodness if left unchecked.

Sanctification is the process God leads us through after salvation—He uses hardship to purify our hearts and transform us.

The waters of Marah reflect the heart of Israel—bitter and broken—until God intervenes with a healing act (the log), symbolizing Christ’s cross.

God tests us in the wilderness to teach us to listen and obey, leading to healing and spiritual wholeness (Jehovah-Rapha).

Elim represents God’s provision after the testing—a reminder that He brings refreshment and rest to those who follow Him through the hard places.

    Takeaway:

God meets us in our bitterness and transforms it into sweetness—just as He turned the bitter waters of Marah into drinkable water. He can heal our hearts, restore our hope, and lead us to place of refreshing when we trust Him through the wilderness.

  • Holiness Through Worship (Part 4)| Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    Jun 9 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

This week we continue with Part 4 of our Year of Holiness (Holiness Through Worship) where Pastor Eric explains how Worship is the ultimate purpose of our souls meant to be vertical, fully directed to God, and not to entertain or please people. In Exodus 15, Miriam leads bold, communal worship that celebrates God’s victory, reminding us that true worship humbles us, connects us to His presence, and anchors us in His strength through every trial.

    🔑 Key Takeaways

    Worship is Your Life’s Purpose

    1. You were created to worship God and enjoy His presence forever.
    2. Worship connects your soul to God and gives a taste of eternal fulfillment now.

Vertical Worship Focuses on God, Not People

    1. Worship designed to entertain people becomes idolatry.
    2. True worship exalts God’s glory over our personal preferences or emotions.

Repetition in Worship is Powerful and Intentional

    1. God delights in repetition—it forms our hearts, just like a loving Father repeating truth to His children.
    2. Scripture models repetition to shape belief (e.g., “Holy, Holy, Holy,” “His love endures forever”).

Worship is a Weapon in the Face of Pursuit

    1. Expect opposition when you begin following Jesus, especially from the flesh, culture, and spiritual attack.
    2. Worship helps you stand firm on God’s solid ground even in the midst of struggle.

God Makes a Way Through, Not Around, the Sea

    1. Believers still face difficulty, but God gives them dry ground to walk on—stability in chaos.
    2. The key difference is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of God’s support.

    Miriam Models Bold, Prophetic Worship

    1. She worships with her whole body, uses music, and invites others into the experience.
    2. She leads prophetically, declaring who God is and what He has done.

    Vertical Worship Changes the Atmosphere

    1. It invites God’s presence, tunes our hearts to the Spirit, and aligns us with His will.
    2. It shifts the spiritual environment of a room and unites people in purpose.

    Takeaway:

Worship is our soul’s true purpose which is meant to glorify God, not ourselves. It connects us to His presence, grounding us in His strength, and transforming everything when directing everything fully to him.

  • Holiness Through Worship (Part 3)| Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    Jun 3 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

This week, Pastor Eric continues in expound upon how worship is our response to God's unchanging power, presence, and love reminding us that He alone is truly worthy, not us or the things we try to control.

    🔑 Key Takeaways:

✅ Who Is Like the Lord? (v.11)

“Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?”

    • A rhetorical question full of awe and reverence.
    • God's Immutable Nature: His essence and character are unchangeable.
      • Unchanging Nature – God does not evolve.
      • Unchanging Character – His love, justice, and mercy are constant.
      • Unchanging Will – His plans are perfect and eternal.
      • Unchanging Promises – He is always faithful.

    Incommunicable Attributes of God

These are divine qualities that cannot be shared by any created being:

    • Omnipresent – God is everywhere at once.
    • Omniscient – God is all-knowing.
    • Omnipotent – God is all-powerful.

The great lie: “You can be like God.”

    We counterfeit God’s attributes:

    • Technology – pretending to be all-powerful.
    • Social Media – projecting presence everywhere.
    • Search + AI – mimicking all-knowing capabilities.

Romans 1:25 – “...they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator...”

✅ What Has God Done? (v.12–13)

“You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them.”

    • God’s Right Hand = His faithfulness in power.
    • God’s Love = Steadfast, fatherly, holy, and fierce.

    Francis Chan:
“Can you imagine if your kids were only 80% sure that you loved them as their Father?”

God’s love is unchanging, unending, and unearned.
    Worship reminds us:

    • Who God is.
    • What He has done.
    • Why we can trust Him again and again.

    Worship Is Our Right Response

What have you seen God do?

    • Worship is how we respond to God’s character and works.

    Worship...

    1. Reminds us of God’s power.
    2. Builds faith that He can do anything.
    3. Centers us on His works, not ours.
    4. Places God on the throne and us at His feet.

The World Will Take Notice (v.14–16)

“Terror and dread fall upon them…”

    Takeaway:

Worship is not about us. It’s all about Him—His power, His presence, and His unchanging love. Let’s seek Him with awe and intimacy every day.

  • Holiness Through Worship (Part 2) | Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    May 26 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

This week, Pastor Eric dives in to how when we grow in our relationship with God and worship Him rightly, we experience His power, presence, and deliverance. Worship is our portable theology—it declares what we believe about God based on His Word.

    🔑 Key Takeaways:

God Is a Warrior (Exodus 15:3)

    • The first truth declared after Israel’s deliverance is that God is a “man of war.”
    • We don’t apologize for God’s power—He fights against sin, bondage, and evil.

Why We Need God to Be a Warrior:

    • Sin: Sin can’t be managed—it must be destroyed. The cross was a violent act of war; the resurrection was victory.
    • Bondage: Like Israel in Egypt, we can't free ourselves. God must go to war to release us.
    • Oppression: The enemy attacks through wounds, lies, vows, and strongholds. God overcomes spiritual forces that hold us down (Eph. 6:12).

Worship Reflects God's Victory (Exodus 15:4–5)

    • God hurled Pharaoh’s army into the sea—a picture of baptism.
    • In baptism, our sin and the enemy’s work are buried. It’s an act of war and worship.

God’s Right Hand Shows His Power and Faithfulness (Exodus 15:6–7)

    • God doesn’t just promise deliverance—He executes it with power and finality.

    God Moves Supernaturally (Exodus 15:8–10)

    • He parts seas, defeats enemies, and sets us free—not just in the natural, but supernaturally.
    • When we call on His name, the God of war fights for us.

    Takeaway:

You can worship for the deliverance you need—and worship for the deliverance you’ve already received.
God is not passive He is present, powerful, and victorious. Worship Him as the warrior who delivers.

  • Holiness Through Worship (Part 1) | Eric Upton | Year of Holiness
    May 19 2025

Kingdom Culture Phoenix exists to disciple people to know and follow Jesus through Word and Spirit.

Worship, what does it mean and why is it important?

This weeks episode emphasizes that worship is not just a ritual or performance, but a deep, heartfelt response to encountering the living God. True worship comes from understanding who God is and what He has done through His deliverance, grace, and presence. Worship must be spirit-filled, unified, and intentional. It is both personal and communal, and it pleases God when it flows from a place of holiness and reverence.

    🔑 Key Takeaways:

Worship is a Response to God’s Presence:

    • It's not about music or emotion alone—true worship is a response to encountering God's nature and deeds.

Scripture: Exodus 15:1-2 – Moses and Israel worshipped after experiencing God's deliverance.

    Worship Must Be Spirit-Filled:

    • The Holy Spirit enables deep and sincere worship.

Scripture: Acts 2:1-4 – The outpouring of the Spirit brought unity and bold worship.

Worship Reflects Our Knowledge of God:

    • The more we know God (His grace, love, provision), the deeper our worship becomes.

    Unity is Essential in Worship:

    • God is pleased when His people worship together in unity.
    • Disunity can hinder worship and its spiritual impact.

    Worship is Holy:

    • Holiness is key. Worship that pleases God comes from pure hearts set apart for Him.

Scripture: Revelation 15:3 – The song of the redeemed is a song of holiness and awe.

Worship is Both Individual and Communal:

    • You worship God in your personal life, but corporate worship brings powerful expressions of unity and praise.

    Worship is Overflow, Not Obligation:

    • It’s not about duty; it’s about overflow—letting what’s in your heart pour out in response to who God is.
