Another Winner!

Where does The Silent Governess rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Silent Governess ranks right at the top of my listening experience pleasures.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was the main character, of course. She was placed in several precarious positions and handled herself extremely well I thought!

What about Elizabeth Jasicki’s performance did you like?

I like her voice. That is the first thing I notice, of course. She handled the different characterizations very well also.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Silent...Not so Silent...Governess

Great!

A great story. It was a bit long, but I have many hours of commute. Therefore, it makes the cost of a book more worthwhile if it is long. the story never became boring and had a few unexpected twists. Julie Klassen is a new favorite author of mine. The narrator is one of my all time favorites and did a wonderful job narrating this story.

Couldn't put down....beautiful redemption story

I loved the fact that the main character was a woman of integrity and brains.....and wait for it....no balls or the ton...or any mention of dresses and frippery....well except for a pink dress. A truly masterful piece of reading.

More than a romance

Yes, romance is definitely part of this story, but only a part of it.
This is a fully rounded story of characters overcoming anger, guilt and fear and gradually finding courage, forgiveness, healing and redemption .
A wonderful, warm, uplifting story.
As an added bonus, each chapter starts with quotes from historical sources (probably from the author’s research) that open a window onto English country life from this bygone era. A treat for history buffs!

Marvelous novel, captivating plot and characters

This, the second novel I've read by Julie Klassen, was full of surprises. Beginning in a a seemingly hopeless situation, the main character, Olivia, slowly finds out the truths of her past while never abandoning her inherent intelligence, kindness and at times stubbornly prideful character. As she follows the path that God and circumstance have placed before her, she endears herself to not only those around her but also to the reader, but not without difficulties due to her circumstance. A seeker of truth, she must live and work in an obscure and subservient role in order to discover answers to the many questions that brought her to the life at Brightwell Hall. At every turn, the richly developed characters that Olivia encounters, draw the reader into a more intimate partnership with them as the story unfolds. This was a satisfying novel, and one not unlike a Dickens tale with richly described settings, endearing characters and interesting plots and subplots. The narrator proceeds in an extremely believable manner bringing an authenticity to the period depicted. I wish I had the novel in front of me rather than behind me, as I will miss each and every one of them. What a memorable read it has been.

Great story of love and the ways you would yearn for things to work out.

The story of a girl going through struggles and not sure of who to trust. Encouraged to keep silent to keep herself safe. The love that grows is a love that makes you smile.

Lovely Clean 19th Century English Romance

Although the main characters are predictably matched from the beginning, there are a few twists and unexpected turns in the storyline that keep the listener engaged and predicting. There are no gratuitous scenes that detract from the overall feel-good mood of this story. Moreover, the language is clean and wholesome. References to God and Christian principles are easily interwoven and nicely correspond to the moments in which they are found. The narrator has a lovely voice and portrays the characters with inflection and distinction. Well done.

Enjoyable

Such an enjoyable read. Not fast moving, getting a little slower toward the end however I really enjoyed the characters and simplicity. I love the lack or eroticism and focus on real romance. Probably won’t repeat but worth the time. Love the HEA and celebration of all that is meant to be good in life. God is good and involved in this book (not in copious amounts, just referenced unless the parson is speaking) which adds to the story.
