About this listen
Tantra Illuminated takes the listener on a fascinating journey to the very heart of original Tantra: its key teachings, foundational lineages, and transformative practices. Since the West's discovery of Tantra 100 years ago, there has been considerable fascination, speculation, and more than a little misinformation about this spiritual movement. Now, for the first time in the English language, Tantra Illuminated presents an accessible introduction to this sacred tradition that began 1,500 years ago in the far north of India. Using translations from primary Sanskrit sources and offering a profound look at spiritual practice, this book reveals Tantra's rich history and powerful teachings.

Story
One thousand years ago in the valley of Kashmir, a great Tantric master named Ksemaraja wrote his masterpiece: the Pratyabhijna-hrdaya, which means "The Essence of the Recognition Philosophy" - recognition, that is, of oneself as a direct expression of the universal divine Consciousness. Recognition also that this Consciousness is, in truth, all that exists, and that its five fundamental powers of awareness, enjoyment, willing, knowing, and acting are the sacred endowments of every sentient being.

Story
For women today, achieving a successful career, a fulfilling romantic relationship, and a rewarding personal life can feel like opposing goals, leaving their deepest yearnings just beyond reach. It has even become difficult to enjoy the simplest pleasures of our lives. We are stuck in “go mode", damaging our romantic relationships, pleasure, and creativity. But what if there were a way to experience the simplest pleasures of our lives on a deeper level, freeing the body and psyche from these damaging patterns?

Rooted in the Asian wisdom traditions, Wallis’s book uncovers why these oft-heard clichés are “near enemies of the truth" that can distract us from real spirituality, and can even cause unnecessary suffering.

In the Upanishads, illumined sages share flashes of insight, the results of their investigation into consciousness itself. In extraordinary visions, they experience directly a transcendent Reality which is the essence, or Self, of each created being. They teach that each of us, each Self, is eternal, deathless, one with the power that created the universe.

Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other,” the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.

Tsultrim Allione brings an 11th-century Tibetan woman's practice to the West for the first time with Feeding Your Demons, an accessible and effective approach for dealing with negative emotions, fears, illness, and self-defeating patterns. Allione - one of only a few female Buddhist leaders in this country and comparable in American religious life to Pema Chodron - bridges this ancient Eastern practice with today's Western psyche. She explains that if we fight our demons, they only grow stronger. But if we feed them, nurture them, we can free ourselves from the battle.

Story
The Tantric text Vijnanabhairava is a true treasure of spiritual literature. It is one of the most interesting practical documents of Tantric instruction that is direct, practical, and sublime. It can help aspirants immensely in studying Tantra, Yoga, Magick, and enlightenment in general. It contains both a large number of practical methods for obtaining enlightened awareness, but also in its brief way contains a philosophical outlook that is refreshing and fascinating.

Yet most of us, women as well as men, have yet to experience the full potential of our inner feminine energies. When you know these powers for what they are, they heighten your capacity to open spiritually, love more deeply and fearlessly, create with greater mastery, and move through the world with skill and delight.

The first book in the Aghora trilogy containing the teachings of Dr. Svoboda’s mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. Written almost entirely in Vimalananda’s own words, it presents events from his life, tenets of his philosophy, and highlights from his spiritual practices. Designed partly to shock and partly to comfort, but wholly as an offering to his Beloved, Aghora is a picture of a man who was a riddle wrapped up in an enigma.

Tour-de-force of authentic Tantrik scholarship! Bravo!!
Christopher Wallis is a delight to listen to. The work is very well organized and draws from the deep community of authentic Tantric scholarship. He sings many of the verses beautifully, and in perfect meter. This work is a gift to the world, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Light on the Tantras II
Great synergy of historical academic facts and personal experience and practice. Also check Hareesh Facebook group and YouTube channel, where is more free material. The book is also nicely narated by the author. I only dislike bit too much personal material and actual time limited information about authors other translations etc.

Enlightening
Really well written and researched. It is a behemoth of a text. I thought it would ideal to seperate it into 3 books rather than one. Either way highly informative. A must for students of Yoga, Tantra and the Vedas. Highly recommend.

Great book on a misunderstood mystical tradition
If you truly wish to understand the history, development and practice of authentic Tantra then this book is for you. The audiobook brings out many aspects the written book doesn't and vice versa. Very long but very good info. Definitely one that will have to be read over and over. Too much info to digest at once but worth it.

Excellent, I feel illuminated
This is an excellent explanation of tantra... I felt I had to read something about tantra because the topic kept on coming up in my other readings on mysticism and spirituality. The author did a great job with a thoroughly misunderstood subject. He performed it very well and I really appreciated his section at the end on Sanskrit pronunciation. Thank you very much.

Thank you Sri Harish for writing this book.
This book has in a way helped me understand and appreciate what my own lineage has done for centuries. I come from Kerala, southern India from a family with my own late uncle was the last practitioner and a teacher (Tantri) of Tantra. Our place of worship is still maintained but limited to the practice of daily puja now. Growing up, I have seen many of the practices described in the book. No doubt this book would help anyone interested in knowing about Tantra. My Pranam to Sri Harish for his continued research in reviving Tantric knowledge and practice and writing this book.
