About this listen

The inspirational best seller that ignited a movement and asked us to find our why.

Discover the book that is captivating millions on TikTok and that served as the basis for one of the most popular TED Talks of all time - with more than 56 million views and counting. Over a decade ago, Simon Sinek started a movement that inspired millions to demand purpose at work, to ask what was the why of their organization. Since then, millions have been touched by the power of his ideas, and these ideas remain as relevant and timely as ever.

Start with Why asks (and answers) the questions: Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over?

People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers had little in common, but they all started with why. They realized that people won't truly buy into a product, service, movement, or idea until they understand the why behind it.

Start with Why shows that the leaders who have had the greatest influence in the world all think, act, and communicate the same way - and it's the opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with why.

What is your compass?

With a clear purpose, a well defined and articulated "why", exceptional success of the "how" (product, brand, service, business) becomes possible. The book draws on many examples, most prominently Apple. I found the book interesting in a general kind of way, but it lacks applicability for me. Perhaps I am too much of a "how" person, too execution focused. A good book and worth the read.

Simon definitely knows his 'Why'

I enjoyed the book, starting from around Chapter 4.
Ultimately, Simon dives deep into the heart of why companies succeed and thrive, while others succeed, then die off, or d.o.a.
Just like what the title suggests, 'why' is the most important question to ask yourself for any endeavor you are pursuing or dreaming of. It is definitely the hardest question for me to answer for myself, and this book clarifies 'why' it's so important to know the reason behind my motives.

Thanks, Simon for sharing your life's work with me. My brain feels like it can conquer anything now

I've gotten a lot out of this book.

I like the stories and how they relates to day to day interactions. Hopefully Simon got some kickback from Apple for all the positive references to their brand. This material is very approachable.

“Why” The DNA of sustainable success

A great read with solid examples of “Why, How and What”. Highly recommended for any entrepreneur who has stagnated and needs to “find” that magic which brought about their success. Thought provoking on the “Legacy “ issue of what gets left behind after the founder has gone.
