About this listen

The first biography of the most popular anchor in cable news.

Rachel Maddow has beaten the odds in a way that's novel in today's America: She uses her brain.

In a world of banal and opinionated soundbites, she regularly crushes Sean Hannity's ratings thanks to her deeply researched reports. And in our highly polarized world, Maddow amiably engages the staunchest conservatives, while never hesitating to expose their light-on-facts defenses.

As a result, she's become the top anchor for MSNBC and a beloved representative for all that progressive America holds dear. The news that Maddow was the first publicly-out lesbian to anchor a prime-time TV news show seemed almost anticlimactic to her millions of viewers, who will be surprised and intrigued by little-known details of her life, as written by New York Times best-selling biographer Lisa Rogak.

Rachel Maddow is very best reporter, news analyst on TV today. This book tells the story of her journey to earning and cementing her stellar reputation. A must read for anyone who appreciates her role in today’s news gathering and bringing that to the TV News public. The narrator does an excellent job.

I loved the narration. The book was superb. It flowed very well and I thought I was simply listening to Rachel herself.

Great Book

I was relatively late in "discovering" Rachel and her USEFUL, REFRESING, INDEPTH, & CONTEXTUAL approach to the world. Thus, I really appreciate the context and background offered in this book. At times the narrator's "Rachel voice" niggled at me (maybe most because I listened to the full book in about 3 days while also watching the real Rachel).
In attending, I began to notice my own inner-Rachel approach that has influenced my 4-5 vocations. For this reason, the book had another dimension of usefulness. In learning tricks RM uses to manage her consciousness, obsessions and willingness to focus, I came to appreciate ways I might "discipline" as well as more completely let fly my own.
I yearn to see more folks in the media who are committed to one the TRMS Mission: to increase the amount of useful information in the world. AND, refreshingly doing so without drawing attention to their hairstyles, clothing or their personal opinions. This approach is our best hope for an informed action among citizens in civil societies and the evolution of humanity.
I recommend this and look forward to more from RM in whatever format.

I totally enjoyed this book. Excellent narration. I hope there's a second one later.
I NEVER miss the Rachel Maddow show.
This book told me things, like her passions and failures at jobs. Her show is where she belongs.
You won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed learning about her tenacity and her ability to size up a situation while remaining honest to who she is. I’m 71, hetero female and this young lady is not only informative but likable!

I was surprised by Rachel several times. She’s deeper than I thought

Pretty in depth biography but would have benefited from an interview with Maddow by the author herself instead of quotes from past interviews.
My biggest complaint is the narrator who mispronounces Maddow (rhymes with shadow) throughout the book and tends to be monotone at times.
Overall not bad if you admire Rachel Maddow. I was amazed at the number of awards and honors she won in college considering what a rabblerouser she was.
