Just what I needed
I highly recommend this to anyone going through grief and loss. It helped me realize it’s ok that I still have bad days, and still hate how people stare these long and obnoxious looks. How strangers want to know the details as if they are deserving of such a deep and personal story. How family feels the need to give their stupid input on how I’m doing....that I’m ok.
It helped me feel heard in my pain and that I’m ok in this place. I’m doing the best I can. And this is my journey and my story and my healing. No god talk, no “look for all the good around you” no butterfly’s and look for “hope” talk,...just REAL talk. REAL advice. REAL understanding.
Very happy I came across this.

This is the BEST book for ppl grieving. Purchased on audible,is too hard to read+comprehend during grief. I found every single chapter useful. I have listened to it 7+times. I have recommended to several ppl grieving vet tech,a few friends and relatives. I praise God Megan speaks the raw truth and her example s of situations has b n very helpful. Other books are so clinical,and weren't helpful. I lost my Mom,she was 43,I was 14. I truly wish this book was around then. Grief was sooo unacceptable back then,and no classmates I knew of,saw their mom die. I am one of 10 children...we didn't even talk to each other about it. I'm glad to read the "timelines" for grief are WRONG!! And now my recent loss has made a lot uncomfortable around me. Megan addresses loss of friends,relatives timelines+dealing a anxiety. In one chapter , to stop the meltdown in public, works! I use it every time. Look fwd to a writing class this summer with Megan. THANK YOU for your book. I will continue to recommend it. Our kids have it too! Be well!

I wish I found this years ago
I am not a religious person and I am not fond of overly sentimental self help writing.
This book is neither.
And, it meets people where they are in their grief when it’s fresh. It’s something that I rarely remember finding when I was grieving myself over life changes. And, if I did, it was ‘too late’.
If you have someone suffering grief right now; I think this could be an excellent gift for them and for yourself if you love them and want to ‘be there’ for them. READ IT WITH THEM.

Great companion in grief
Listening to this book at a time during severe grief, and at times when I could not sleep (often at 3 AM ), found much needed comfort. Megan’s voice is so soothing making me feel like she is a close companion to me in this journey of grief. I will keep re-listening because her wise words take on deeper meaning to me and continue to provide me comfort.

Changed my life
My family keeps passing away, they're all young, and healthy, and i never would have expected to lose them. From accident, self inflicted, or murder it hurts worse every time and I've been floundering in my attempt to "move on" ... i don't have friends and my existing family doesn't want to talk about it. Even when i recommended this book i was ignored, they turn into brick walls when i mention the losses we've experienced. My doctor offers warm words and tried to find me a counselor, but like i said, i don't have friends; meeting someone new and being vulnerable just didn't appeal to me, It seemed tiresome. More than anything, this book made me feel seen. Chapter 7 was especially heart wrenching, when you lose someone young you find yourself always thinking; " they cant be here for this" or, "they'll never get married" and, "they would've loved this show, and now they cant see it." Thank you Megan Devine for making me feel heard. I think thats what i needed all this time. This book is all about living in your grief and coming out if it slowly, when you're ready. The authors voice is beautiful and soothing, and exactly what i needed to hear given the stressful context. Normally thinking about the loss has me spiraling, but her voice was like a hand i could hold while i faced the pain. If you've lost someone i urge you to pick up this book

This Book Helped Me, Thank You Megan!
This book will help you through grief. What I mean is not just the death and dying. All stages of grief, even ones that you don't know about. Downloading this book in my darkest hour - helped me cry. The way Megan welcomes the reader I felt like she understood my pain that I've been going through since February.
Downloading this Audible book is from my own doing. The source of my pain these last few months with losing friends, getting heartbroken, and the fear of the future all came from grief. This book tells you the common norms of how people respond to grief whether it's themselves or a friend.
This book also explains the norm of creativity after death. Whether that is art, writing, or photography. I wrote a book when my dad died. But, any loss I had in my life that had to do with sadness or heartache I wrote it all down in a fiction story. To my therapist she was concerned with my way of thinking, now I just write in my diary.
I had to tap into my emotions that dealt with the grief of my father. Meeting someone recently or going places in my past to where it felt like home. Megan helped me look at grief in a different way. Of all the books on grief with Audible I downloaded this one. I didn't know what to expect and now I found peace within myself to move forward from my dads death.
I want to thank Megan for that. It's been over 8 years and grief isn't easy. To express emotions isn't easy. It's OK That You're Not OK! <3
