About this listen

A stellar new science-fiction adventure from the author who redefined space opera, set in his best-selling Revelation Space universe.

For 30 years, a tiny band of humans has been sheltering in the caverns of an airless, crater-pocked world called Michaelmas. Beyond their solar system lie the ruins of human interstellar civilization, stalked by a ruthless, infinitely patient cybernetic entity determined to root out the last few bands of survivors. One man has guided the people of Michaelmas through the hardest of times and given them hope against the wolves: Miguel de Ruyter.

When a lone human ship blunders into their system and threatens to lead the wolves to Michaelmas, de Ruyter embarks on a desperate, near-suicide mission to prevent catastrophe. But an encounter with a refugee from the ship - the enigmatic woman who calls herself only Glass - leads to de Ruyter's world being turned upside down.

Fantastic

A continuation of many themes in the revelation space world with a dark opressing story mired with subtle twists of hope. John Lee is also top notch as the performer.

thrilling and chilling

I am in such awe of the incredible mind of Alistaire Reynolds.
And am so fortunate to have glimpsed it through his books.
And to know the joy of John Lee’s storytelling.

Speechless. Well almost.

one of Raynolds' best. I truly enjoyed it. as always - some of it is slow. but the story is worth it.

I enjoyed this new installment in the series. I suppose it stands alone to a newcomer but it’s also for the existing fans.
I saw it was on pre release so I took the time to listen to the entire series just before this one. When your talking about 100 plus hours of dialogue, a refresher helps tremendously.
The story is snuck in during the timeline of events and helps with closure of a few past hero’s of the tale.
I know some will complain about minor plot flaws and non earth shattering conclusions but that’s how these stories are. It’s space opra/drama, not fast paced action / adventure. I thought it was quite wonderful.
Job well done to Alastair as well as John Lee. Keep them coming please.

Nice addition to Revelation Space

Very solid addition to the series. Great character development, okay worldbuilding (to be fair, the world has already been built in previous titles). It's typically the opposite for Reynolds, having, in my opinion, spectacular world building and mediocre character development.

Previous story lines felt a bit meandering, which made it more difficult for me to stick with. This book is stable and concise narrative wise. A little weird toward the end, but that comes with the territory, doesn't it?

Impeccable narration, as usual.

Enjoyed this audiobook very much. A lot of backstory info from the earlier books and extended the story in some interesting ways.
As usual, John Lee delivers another impeccable performance. Recommended!
