About this listen

Eat your way to better health with this New York Times best seller on food's ability to help the body heal itself from cancer, dementia, and dozens of other avoidable diseases. Forget everything you think you know about your body and food, and discover the new science of how the body heals itself. Learn how to identify the strategies and dosages for using food to transform your resilience and health in Eat to Beat Disease.

We have radically underestimated our body's power to transform and restore our health. Pioneering physician scientist Dr. William Li empowers listeners by showing them the evidence behind more than 200 health-boosting foods that can starve cancer, reduce your risk of dementia, and beat dozens of avoidable diseases. Eat to Beat Disease isn't about what foods to avoid, but rather is a life-changing guide to the hundreds of healing foods to add to your meals that support the body's defense systems, including:

  • Plums
  • Cinnamon
  • Jasmine tea
  • Red wine and beer
  • Black beans
  • San Marzano tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Pacific oysters
  • Cheeses like Jarlsberg, Camembert and cheddar
  • Sourdough bread

The book's plan shows you how to integrate the foods you already love into any diet or health plan to activate your body's health defense systems - angiogenesis, regeneration, microbiome, DNA protection, and immunity - to fight cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative autoimmune diseases, and other debilitating conditions.

Both informative and practical, Eat to Beat Disease explains the science of healing and prevention, the strategies for using food to actively transform health, and points the science of well-being and disease prevention in an exhilarating new direction.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS

I do not necessarily suffer from an illness but the amount of things I learned are so valuable AND fascinating. I have listened to this audiobook repeatedly (mostly before I go to bed) and his voice makes it SO easy to keep listening (the voice makes a huge difference with audiobooks it can make or break on). He reads calmly and clearly for anyone to understand and follow along. I highly suggest this for anyone wanting to learn the science of what we eat and how it impacts us.

I Learned a Lot!

There is a lot of medical information and I learned a lot. I will probably listen again when I can take some notes about particular foods, their benefits and the diseases they can help prevent.

great research information.

The narration was monotonous and annoying mostly. But the information is necessary, and worth listening to.

PDF is in the Chapters drop down

There are countless reviews knocking the lack of accompanying PDF. However, if you find the Chapters drop down, you will see the link for the PDF. It’s not a separate add within your library. It’s within the audio book itself.

A huge fan of Dr. Li and his overall approach to this book. He clearly is NOT selling a specific diet or a one size fits all lifestyle. He is simply providing education for nutrition that is often overlooked or disregarded in many/not all medical circles.

This book is a tool to be used in combination with your own self study for overall wellness as it relates to you as a unique individual. It is not spoken/written as a replacement for singular key to eliminate disease. Take this book with that in mind.

I know we live in a light switch world where we want answers and solutions instantaneously, but that’s not the case. As with anything, consistency has to be a key and with consistency comes time. Invest in yourself daily, not just for the day.

Insightful book with a wide audience appeal

The book can clearly make a difference in lives of millions of people because of the scientific evidence and accessible presentation of this evidence to the audience. The author makes every effort to convey the highly technical information to readers/listeners of any educational and social background without oversimplifying the science. The only drawback in the book is an assumption that readers can easily get the foods described in quantities and qualities used in the underlying scientific studies. What the public can buy at the grocery store is not the same quality as used in the lab. The audio itself is easy to understand but the voice is monotonous, which at times makes it hard for listeners to focus. Overall though, the book is definitely worth reading/listening to.

Provides good take away tools for own life

I heard an interview with Dr Li on a podcast and very much enjoyed listening to him then. I was disappointed that he did not narrate this audiobook himself. While being informative, the first part of this audiobook was too textbook-like for me. I did enjoy the 5x5x5, risk score assessment, and the accompanying pdf.
