About this listen

A woman trying to rebuild her life.

Kennedy is doing all she can to escape, to prove that she's not the monster her father was. A simple life of peace and service is all she needs.

A man haunted by a past he can't forget.

Cain has buried his demons under layers of control and success. The only thing he needs is his company and his solitude. Certainly not a woman with captivating green eyes filled with ghosts so similar to his own.

He's a reminder of the life she's left behind. And she's a threat to his tightly guarded control. As sparks fly between them, they discover that what they might need most is each other.

But with pasts like theirs...you never know when darkness might descend.

Another kidnapping

The author weaves a great story. The only negative is so far each book in this series has a kidnapping. The characters are great and their histories are interesting and unique. The narrators are good. Not much difference if any in all the male characters voices nor the female characters voices. Love the characters in the primary family. Love the way main characters from prior books in the series are woven in. Cane has been mentioned several times in prior goods and have wanted to know his story.

Loved Kennedy and Cain!

Beautifully Broken Control is a perfect addition to the Sutter Lake series.
If you have read the previous books in the series then you have already met
Kennedy and it is obvious that she is harboring secrets. It is also obvious that this is because of fear, but she is a caring friend to Jensen and a hard worker and volunteer.
Cain is college buddies with Walker and Tucker and he is checking out Sutter Lake because he desperately needs a change of pace from his company as he tries to figure out who is giving away his secrets. It is also obvious he carries pain from his past and his protective nature is a result of that and that protective nature is magnified when Kennedy is in danger.
Kennedy and Cain definitely have chemistry but they also have secrets and pain from their pasts. It was a joy to watch them work through it all with the other by their side and finally find their own happiness and happily ever after.
I also had the added benefit of listening to the audio version of this story and the narrators did an amazing job that absolutely added to my enjoyment of this book!

Perhaps my favorite storyline...

This story is about Kennedy and Cain, She's got guilt issues and he's got guilt and trusting issues. Together they try to navigate on how to work through their problems - first individually and then together. Cain reminds me of a certain other character who shared similar traits (Christian Grey) He is filthy rich, has total control of his company, keeps people at arms length, Yet Kennedy is his weakness. Kennedy on the other hand is a strong willed person who stands on her own two feet and is not afraid to stand up for herself, speak her mind and work hard, in order to survive. Like with the rest of the other books beofre this one, the suspense part of the books is not extremely intense, so there really is no major angst, which sometimes I think loses its steam by the end of the book. Nonetheless, it is a good series.

Love this Age-Gap Small-Town Romance

“There’s nothing in this life I’m more grateful for than you.” Review: This is book 4 in the Sutter Lake series. We have gotten glimpses of Cain throughout the other books in the series and he intrigued me. I am so excited to finally have his story and that he gets an HEA too! Kennedy is working hard to make it on her own and make a new life for herself. Cain works hard and is in need of an escape when he gets upsetting news. Kennedy works at The Kettle and has been taken under Jensen's wing. Jensen brings her into the fold and therefore into their family gatherings. Kennedy meets Cain one night at the Cole house. Cain is instantly curious about the girl who evades giving too much away. She sparks his curiousity further and he can't help but look into her further. She draws him in like no one has in years. Only what he finds is not what he expected. These two were both broken and shielding themselves from love and any true connection with another. They were so perfect to help each other and break down those walls. I loved Kennedy's outlook on her new life and even started a Grateful jar of my own. “There was always something to be grateful for. Always.” Cain was so protective of Kennedy and my heart broke for him and the pain he had to endure from his past. I understood why he felt he had to protect the ones he loved. These two were a slow burn, but once the match was lit, they were fire! I loved them! I also loved that we got updates on everyone in the series. This found family is just what each of them needed!

Beautifully Broken Control

Beautifully Broken Control is the fourth book in the Sutter Lake Series. We are introduced to Kennedy (the female protagonist) in the previous book, Beautifully Broken Spirit. Cain (the male protagonist) in Beautifully Broken Life when he helps Liam find Tessa. We learn Kennedy is rebuilding her life after escaping her family’s breakdown. She comes to Sutter Lake in hopes of a simple life and giving more than she takes. Cain also escapes to Sutter Lake from the demons that caught him living in the city. He runs a highly successful tech company and finds out someone in his company is betraying him. Cain has a haunted past that he can’t seem to shake. When Cain first meets Kennedy he senses right away something is off. Kennedy is guarded about her past just as much as Cain. Everyone around them can sense the sparks flying between the two of them as the story continues. There is a bit of danger lurking that I didn’t realize (but totally should have!) and a plot twist that shocked me! My favorite about these series is reading about the characters from the previous books and reading how they are progressing.

Performance: Maxine Mitchell and Aaron Shedlock perform beautifully in this fourth book. I just enjoyed it so much!
