Story
African American Slave Medicine offers a critical examination of how African American slaves' medical needs were addressed during the years before and surrounding the Civil War. Drawing upon ex-slave interviews conducted during the 1930s and 1940s by the Works Project Administration (WPA), Dr. Herbert C. Covey inventories many of the herbal, plant, and non-plant remedies used by African American folk practitioners during slavery.

While I am not fully grasping the divine feminine (DF) energy part of this, I can see the benefits of traditional medicine such as remedies often being gentle and non-invasive, attempting to address root causes and well being as a whole person vs. only treating symptoms and segmented body functions (specialties) in modern western medicine practices.
I agree that, even thought it won't be easy, we should strive for a healthy integration of ancient holistic health practices with modern western medicine. We're already seeing some convergence in some therapeutics and healthcare products using traditional herbal remedies. This book also gives some practical tips on herbal remedies (primarily as preventive measures), mindfulness practices etc.
If you're interested in learning about the rich culture and history of African tribal medicine or incorporating holistic remedies to your self-care routine, this book is for you.
