With over 20 years of experience at TCSG, including roles as interim president and executive VP for operations, Pence has been instrumental in supporting the college’s financial and administrative divisions. TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier praised her leadership and dedication to technical education. Pence, who began her career auditing technical colleges, expressed her passion for delivering high-quality education and workforce training. She holds an MBA from Reinhardt University and will lead Chattahoochee Tech’s nine campuses across north Georgia. STORY 2: Truist Park Welcomes Chef Terry Koval Truist Park welcomes James Beard Award-winning chef Terry Koval as the May resident chef at the Giving Kitchen stall in the Outfield Market. STORY 3: Teen Killed, Two Injured in Stabbing During Large Fight at Powder Springs Kroger A fight in the Brownsville Road Kroger parking lot on Sunday evening led to three stabbings, resulting in the death of 17-year-old William Renfro of Dallas, according to Powder Springs Police. The altercation involved a group, mostly juveniles, who gathered to fight. Two others were hospitalized with injuries. Markevon Williams, 17, of Powder Springs, and a juvenile have been arrested, facing charges including murder, aggravated assault, and kidnapping. Since then, a new board elected in 2011-2012 has transformed the organization, achieving some of the lowest electric rates in Georgia and top national reliability. However, term limits approved in 2012 mean the entire board will be replaced between 2026 and 2028, raising concerns about the loss of institutional knowledge. A police officer witnessed the pair tagging and taking a selfie. Both face charges including criminal damage and interference with government property. They were released on April 10 on $10,000 bonds. Sheriff Craig Owens terminated Munoz immediately upon learning of the charges, condemning the behavior as egregious and contrary to law enforcement values. Part of a larger PATH Foundation project, the Silver Comet Trail will eventually connect Atlanta to Alabama by 2026. Cobb’s $8 million contribution includes trail construction, bridge repairs, and road upgrades. Open to ages 18+, auditions require both a vocal video (under 5 minutes with two contrasting songs) and a dance video (four 8-counts of a jazz combo). Bethel Academy to Receive Tax-Free Bonds for Expansion The Development Authority of Cobb County approved up to $50 million in tax-exempt bonds to help Mt. Bethel Christian Academy expand its upper school campus in east Cobb. The project aims to accommodate up to 625 middle and high school students by replacing temporary classrooms with permanent buildings, upgrading athletic facilities, and adding a dining hall. The school plans to move middle grades to the upper campus as its lease for the lower campus ends in 2028. While the bond pricing is pending market conditions, the expansion is expected to create 14-16 jobs in five years, though some board members questioned its alignment with the authority's mission. STORY 5: Kemp signs two tax cut bills Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed two tax relief bills on Tax Day. After much debate and a veto from Mayor Steve Tumlin, the council voted 4-3 in favor of full residential use for one building, citing challenges in attracting commercial tenants. The developer argued the weak retail market made the change necessary. The site will also include 39 townhomes, with most being three stories tall.
