The Tampa Bay Rays picked up a much-needed win on Wednesday night, edging the A’s 6-5 in a wild game. It didn’t start well for Tampa Bay, as the A’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead early. The Rays cut into the deficit in the bottom of the second when Jake Mangum raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to make it 2-1. After a quiet stretch, the Rays' offense broke through in the sixth. Josh Lowe launched a solo homer to dead center to tie the game, followed by a Brandon Lowe double and a towering two-run shot by Yandy Díaz that gave the Rays their first lead. Chandler Simpson added an RBI single as part of a two-run frame to stretch the lead to 6-2. The A's mounted a furious rally in the ninth, scoring three runs to make it 6-5 and loading the bases. But Edwin Uceta came through in the clutch, striking out Nick Kurtz to seal the win. Ryan Pepiot delivered a strong bounce-back start for the Rays, going six innings with nine strikeouts and earning the win. Tampa Bay now gets a day off before heading to Minnesota for their final road trip ahead of the All-Star break.
