🎙️ Global Desi Women welcomes a deeply moving and empowering conversation with Maneesha Ahluwalia, a remarkable woman who embodies courage, authenticity, and transformation. In this episode, your host Arti Solanki—real estate broker, business coach for women entrepreneurs, and author of Hindu Rituals—is joined by co-hosts Bhavana Shelley, a sharp and insightful business analyst, and Bhawna Luthra, a compassionate marriage and family therapist. Together, they explore the life journey of a woman who dared to walk away from societal expectations to embrace a path aligned with her inner truth.

Maneesha is The Life Coach for Indians who are done living for everyone else’s expectations. Formerly an infectious diseases physician, Maneesha made the bold choice to leave her medical career, end her marriage, and let go of the pursuit of motherhood—not in rebellion, but as an act of deep self-respect and alignment with her truest self. Her story isn't just about walking away—it's about stepping into something far more powerful: the life she was meant to live.

In this episode, we dive into: ✨ The emotional toll of living up to others’ expectations ✨ How coaching helped Maneesha reclaim her identity and joy ✨ The mindset shifts that changed her life ✨ The cultural weight of "success" in South Asian households ✨ Learning to say "no" and stop justifying every decision

Maneesha now helps others who feel stuck or overwhelmed by life decisions. Through her coaching practice, she empowers people—especially Indians—to stop second-guessing themselves and start building lives they don’t need to explain to anyone.

  • Crafting Culture: The Story of Imroz Niwas with Tannya Singh
    Apr 12 2025

    Send us a text

In this enriching episode of Global Desi Women, host Arti Solanki—a real estate broker, business coach for women entrepreneurs, and author of Hindu Rituals—is joined by her insightful co-host Bhavana Shelley, a skilled business analyst, to welcome a remarkable guest whose story blends legacy, creativity, and entrepreneurship in a deeply inspiring way.

Meet Tannya Singh, the founder of Imroz Niwas, a conscious lifestyle brand that celebrates the artistry and soul of Indian craftsmanship. Born in New Delhi and raised in Houston, Tannya is a living bridge between two cultures. With her mother Sharmila as her partner and muse, she embarked on a journey to preserve India’s rich artisanal heritage while reimagining it for the modern world.

At the heart of Imroz Niwas—translated as "House of Today"—is a mission to connect conscious consumers with handcrafted treasures that carry deep meaning. More than just a brand, Imroz is a movement rooted in sustainability, ethical sourcing, and a heartfelt respect for the artisans behind every creation. Each product is not only beautiful, but also carries with it generations of tradition, technique, and cultural pride.

In this episode, Tannya opens up about:

    • Her upbringing in two very different worlds and how it shaped her worldview
    • The early seeds of inspiration that led to the founding of Imroz Niwas
    • Working side-by-side with her mother and the joy (and challenges) of running a mother-daughter business
    • The importance of slow fashion, ethical consumerism, and conscious entrepreneurship
    • How she discovers and collaborates with artisans across India to preserve traditional crafts that are at risk of disappearing
    • The balancing act of managing a mission-driven brand in a fast-paced, often commercial marketplace

Arti and Bhavana explore what it means to build a legacy brand that doesn’t just sell products—but tells stories, elevates unheard voices, and bridges cultures with intention. Together, they dive deep into the essence of what makes a business impactful in today’s world—not just its profit margin, but its purpose.

  • Healing, Art, and Impact: Dr. Amita Bhalla’s Mission with Magic Bus to Break the Cycle of Poverty
    Mar 15 2025

    Send us a text

Welcome to another powerful episode of Global Desi Women! I’m your host, Arti Solanki—real estate broker at Livin Large Realty, business coach, and author of Hindu Rituals—and today, I have the absolute honor of speaking with an inspiring woman whose passion, philanthropy, and purpose-driven work are changing lives.

Joining us is Dr. Amita Bhalla, a physician, artist, and philanthropist, whose journey from Mumbai to the U.S. has been fueled by a deep commitment to healing, education, and empowering underprivileged children. While she has built a thriving career in neurology and sleep medicine, her heart is equally invested in using art and mentorship to create lasting social impact.

The Magic of Magic Bus: Transforming Lives Through Sport & Mentorship
At the heart of today’s conversation is Magic Bus, a life-changing non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in India. Magic Bus works with children from marginalized communities, providing them with sports-based mentorship, life skills, education, and career guidance to help them rise above poverty and build a brighter future.

Amita and her husband, Karan, have been personally involved in this mission, supporting 60 young girls in Mumbai’s Bombay Port Trust community. These girls, many of whom face social and economic challenges, are given access to structured mentorship programs, sports-based education, and career opportunities that help them develop confidence, leadership skills, and financial independence.

Magic Bus follows a childhood-to-livelihood model, ensuring that children not only stay in school but also gain employable skills, ultimately transforming their futures. This initiative has reached over 1 million children across India, helping them step into higher education, stable employment, and leadership roles in their communities.

Through their work with Magic Bus, Amita and Karan have witnessed firsthand the power of mentorship and opportunity. They’ve seen young girls who were once at risk of dropping out of school now pursuing higher education and careers, breaking barriers that have existed for generations.

For Amita, art and social impact go hand in hand. She believes that through self-expression, creativity, and community involvement, we can create ripples of joy and inspire change at every level.
