Story
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

In Brainstorm, the renowned psychiatrist and bestselling author of Parenting from the Inside Out, The Whole-Brain Child, and Mindsight, Daniel Siegel busts a number of commonly held myths about adolescence — for example, that it is merely a stage of “immaturity” filled with often “crazy” behavior — to reveal how it is in fact a vital time in our lives in terms of charting the course for the adults we ultimately become.

Must Read! Helping is with young and old kids
I'm very pleased with all the takeaways from this book. Obviously, I will have to put them into effect in order to know how well they work. But, we have already started using a behavior contract and a reward system and it really has changed the behavior of our kids, especially my 8-year-old. I'm happy to be nipping some of the teenage behaviors I see in her. I'm hoping this will help us avoid many of the teenage issues that I'm dealing with with my other children. with my older son, the reward system is working well. I don't think I have ever realized how little we treat our home environment like the real world. we often use consequences from The real world but not rewards. I love this train of thought. thanks for the help and I definitely recommend this to anybody with any age child who is having behavioral issues.
