About this listen
If Adal and Arija can't survive, we're all screwed. Let the war begin.
Deep in the belly of a cave lies a door to a mechanical world that will change two lives forever.
Webley and the steam-powered creations of the World Machine keep the Earth turning. But when Adal and Arija unknowingly set the gears in motion on a fierce civil war, they could destroy billions of lies.
Including their own.
Adal and Arija have already lost so much, they can't lose each other, too. But when they're forced to fight a creature that couldn't possibly exist, they must adapt or they'll lose the only people they have left.
If you like Cassandra Clare and Joules Verne, you'll love this YA adventure full of witty banter, ingenious machines, and thrilling twists.

When the aliens came down and told us they’d enslave all of the human race if we didn’t send our bigliest warrior to participate in their arena death games, I laughed at them. It was really funny because they obviously didn’t know who they were dealing with. Know what I mean? Then they said they would pick the greatest warrior, and they picked Marc Havak. He seemed like such an average guy, but he was a true-blue American. He even worked as a truck driver! That’s the kind of good guy we want defending us from aliens.

Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

My name is Quinn MacKenna, and magic doesn’t work on me. When I’m not getting roped into bar brawls in Boston, I’m usually acquiring - stealing is a form of acquisition, you know - dangerous magical artifacts to turn around and sell them to the highest bidders. But I prefer to be paid in favors, not money. Because favors are a hot commodity in the Land of the Fae. Favors are the only currency that will buy the answers I seek: Why magic doesn’t work on me, and who my real father is.

Snarky epic fun!
I listened to the audiobook of this and I am SO happy that I did.
I’m going to be brutally honest. I typically don’t like audibles produces by indie authors. The books themselves are great but it seems the available narrators are subpar. So when I got this I decided to give it a try because I knew the book was good.
I was blown away. At first I was a little annoyed by the way the narrator spoke the female voices, especially Arija but after I got used to him, I loved it and it almost added a bit of humor to it.
This book is a total five-star read. Snarky, funny, filled with action, and never boring, Webley and the World Machine introduces us to a cast of characters that are sure to entertain for many books to come.

An Exciting New World
This was a fun, exciting read. The world building is amazing and the characters are both hilarious and well rounded. Usually I find that male narrators don't do women's voices well, but this one was actually pretty good and his range of voices is great for a book like this! I can't wait to hear what comes next from both the author and the narrator!

A World of Possibilities
A very interesting take on steampunk, creationism, and mechanisms. The premise drops our main characters into scenario where they are discovering a secret underground world and the good vs. evil fight taking place between different factions of creations as well as a socio-economic look at a battle between classes.
Parts of the character involvement feel a little rushed, or had no build up to root a solid feeling. The narration makes up for some of that. I kept wondering between accents opposed to where they were, since they were in Germany, but I was catching English and Australian and maybe Irish accents for some characters.
In all, a very entertaining ride for readers to get on board with.

Snarky Steampunk!
A different twist on Steampunk! Take two teenagers, Adel and Arija, and throw them into an underground world full of mechanical machines and people (?) and you have an idea of the fun ahead!
Adal adores his grandfather, so when he suddenly dies, Adal is heartbroken. The only thing his grandfather left him is a mysterious gold coin. When that coin leads Adal to a cave, he has no idea what is ahead. Of course, Arija, being Adal's best friend and the one who keeps him out of trouble, has to go along for the ride.
The descriptions of this underground world are amazing, often coming at you so fast that you have to slow down and enjoy them (as much as you want to hurry up and see what happens next!). There are some great characters along the way, some amazing machines and tons of out-of-this-world creatures.
Of course, we also have a crazy-great villain and his minions who decide to take over this new world. Mr. Chopchinski has brought this world to life in a thoroughly entertaining way. You will laugh, you will cheer and you will cry as you go on this great adventure! There are loads of action-filled battles and some truly wonderful characters, especially the little "boy" named Kip. The addition of snarkiness just adds to the listener's enjoyment. As Adel says many times, "Whose house?"
Obviously, there has to be a sequel and I look forward to reading the next phase of this awesome trip! I first read the Kindle version of this book, so when I was given the opportunity to listen to the Audible version, I was excited to do so. The narrator, Mike Sanders, does an absolutely awesome job and made a great book even better! Even though I had read the book previously, his narration brought the story to life in such a way that it was like a brand new adventure.

Weeeee!!!
I was familiar with steampunk before this book, but this way first steampunk novel and wow! It was absolutely spectacular.
The story is told in third person so we get to ‘hear’ a lot from both main characters Adel and Arija. The two have been best friends for a long time and there’s lots of playful banter on the page. You’ll quickly start rooting for these two to make their friendship something more.
The world Mr Chopchinski build is vast and well through out, right down to its origins. There is a reason for the steampunk, instead of it merely being an alternate reality.
The side characters are well fleshed out, though they all still carry some mystery about them.
Get yourself some caffeine because if you pick up this book you’re not gonna wanna put it down. Find out why the world goes ‘round and breath a finally towards the end, I can’t wait for the next book!
Narrator review: This was a narrator with lots of voices inside! His Webley was my favorite. It reminded me of a cockney Hagrid. His female voices were a little forced, but I think that’s more a matter of style choice then an actual problem (I’d rather they didn’t raise their voice to sound more feminine).
