A Powerful Story of Family, Loss, and Defiance
This book had everything I look for in a fantasy novel—strong characters, an engaging plot, and a setting that feels both real and otherworldly. Adelaide’s journey to uncover the truth behind her husband’s death is emotional and intense, and her children’s stories add so many layers to the narrative. I especially enjoyed Eddison’s arc with the pirates—it added an adventurous twist that kept me turning the pages. A promising start to what I hope is an epic series.

A Gripping Colonial Fantasy Full of Heart and Fir
The Wages of Kin pulled me in from the first chapter with its rich world-building and emotional depth. The characters are incredibly well-drawn—Adelaide’s strength and her children’s diverging paths make for a compelling family saga. I loved the balance of action, political intrigue, and personal stakes. The colonial setting feels fresh and immersive, and the themes of rebellion, loyalty, and sacrifice really resonate. A must-read for anyone who loves character-driven fantasy with a historical edge.

Emotionally Rich and Fantastically Written
What stood out most about The Wages of Kin was how grounded the fantasy elements felt. The drama within the Battier family is realistic and emotionally charged, while the broader world is full of secrets, danger, and political manipulation. The author does a fantastic job of showing how each family member copes with tragedy and pressure in their own way. It’s thrilling, moving, and deeply human. I can’t wait to see where the story goes in Book 2.
