Ciera Rogers
About this listen
From the fashion mogul and entrepreneur behind Babes, an empowering memoir about turning what makes you different into the foundation of your success
Ciera Rogers is known for being an “Outsider”—and she likes it that way. As the founder and CEO of a multi-million-dollar brand that caters to curvy women of all shades, worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian and championed by Beyoncé, Ciera has built a business around the radical idea that what makes you different is actually your superpower.
In this bold and inspiring memoir, Ciera opens her heart and shares the moments in her life that left her feeling different —being kidnapped at a young age by her estranged father, running hustles in strip clubs, living in her mom’s red Jeep—and unearths the powerful lessons she took from these moments to fuel her unorthodox rise. From daring to post her first outfit for sale on Instagram, hitting seven-figures, and buying a home, her journey is a testament to resilience and courage, including lessons like:
- Harness What You Already Have: Learn how to leverage your existing skills and get savvy about finding free resources—you already have the tools you need to succeed.
- Embrace Your Unique Identity: Discover how to turn your differences into strengths and build a path to success based on what makes you unique—embrace who you are, unapologetically.
- Turn Setbacks into Stepping Stones: Transform your personal and professional challenges into opportunities for growth—setbacks are just setups for comebacks.
- Write Your Own Script for Success: Recognize that the “American Dream” is a trap in a rigged and unequal game—free yourself from societal expectations and feel empowered to define your own success.
- Use People Ethically: Learn how to network creatively, and be up front about what you need and want from people to reach your goals quicker—it’s all about honesty and mutual benefit.
Arguing that what the world calls limitations—lack of connections, resources, fancy degrees, or even the “right” look—are actually our biggest competitive advantages, Ciera teaches anyone who has ever been overlooked, ignored, or underestimated how to embrace their Outsider status to find unstoppable success. The Outsider Advantage isn’t just a raw and moving memoir. It's a heartfelt guide to turning your differences into your greatest strengths, inspiring you to forge your own path and succeed on your terms.
©2024 Ciera Rogers (P)2024 Penguin AudioCritic reviews
“The Outsider Advantage is for anyone who has ever been told they are too girly, too poor, too loud, too whatever to succeed. Ciera Rogers is here to tell you that your too-much-ness is your superpower, and she’ll show you how to harness it to achieve your dreams.”—Vivian Tu, New York Times bestselling author of Rich AF
"Sharp, unflinching, raw. Rogers redefines what it takes to be successful and puts unstoppable power in our hands.”—Everette Taylor, CEO of Kickstarter
"Packed with deeply personal stories and practical advice, The Outsider Advantage shows you how to mine what makes you different and turn that difference into gold. This book is a celebration of outsiderhood, and Ciera Rogers empowers us to find our own way in a world that often tries to box us in.”—Kiersten Saunders, cocreator of rich & REGULAR and coauthor of Cashing Out

School taught us specific subjects, like maths and history. But the most important situations we face as adults were never discussed with us when we were students. We weren't taught these skills in school, and this makes all the success stories we hear about seem out of reach; it makes us feel dumb. We aren't dumb, we just don't know how to work the system.

Story
Like many of us, Jeffrey Marsh was conditioned to have an outward focus—to give to others, to be a good listener, and to be the one who gave the best advice. In Marsh’s case, it was a method of survival. Growing up genderfluid in an unaccepting family, Marsh did everything they could to meet the needs of others and not have needs of their own. And ultimately, this meant Marsh put themself in the backseat of their own life. In this heartfelt and sincere book, Marsh shares their story and the lessons they learned on the path back to themselves.

In It’s Always Been Ours, eating disorder specialist and storyteller, Jessica Wilson, challenges us to rethink what having a “good” body means in contemporary society. By centering the bodies of Black women in her cultural discussions of body image, food, health, and wellness, Wilson argues that we can interrogate white supremacy’s hold on us and reimagine the ways we think about, discuss, and tend to our bodies.

Regular feedback, when delivered skillfully, can turn average performers into the hardest workers and stars into superstars. Yet many see it as an awkward chore: Recent studies have revealed 37 percent of managers dread giving feedback, and 65 percent of employees wish their managers gave more feedback. This trail-blazing new model eliminates the guesswork.

The Power Source shows how and why our pelvic floor is so important from a variety of different perspectives, ranging from purely physical body mechanics to how it impacts our nervous system to how it is the seat of all life force energy. Roxburgh demonstrates how it relates to the other areas of our body (or, as she calls them, "containers"), both physically and energetically. And, most importantly, she shares a program for how readers can align their bodies and their lives by adopting an entirely new and more powerful definition of "strength".

I love Cieras authenticity!
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
Ciera pays heartfelt tribute to her mother, crediting much of her success to the resilience, dedication, and resourcefulness instilled during her upbringing, alongside a sharp eye for fashion.
I was emotionally shook by the true stories the author shares about family ties. Ties strengthened by a near-death hospital scare, and ties tested during a kidnapping, and through abandonment. As a fellow Texan with Louisiana roots, I cheered for this heroine from start to finish. Ciera’s story of grit and perseverance unites outsiders everywhere, offering encouragement and wisdom throughout the narrative. I highly recommend this book for its emotional impact and empowering message.
