About this listen
Gray, a disillusioned mixed-race Indigenous lawyer and his wife take a break from their busy city life in Melbourne to visit the homeland of his mother in Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory for Christmas in 1974. It is a dream holiday that escalates into a terrifying nightmare as the couple become the unwitting target of an unscrupulous racist miner.
Set against the devasting onslaught of Cyclone Tracy in the tumultuous times of the early 1970’s in a remote region of Australia, ‘The Nowhere Man’ tells the story of one man’s search to reconnect with his ancestral cultural roots and his ultimate fight for survival.

Great characters
I really enjoyed this story. The characters are well done, and it feels like you’re getting a real peek into the past. I hadn’t heard this story before (not being Australian), so it was all new to me, and the author does a great job building the tension and psychological drama. It’s a gritty, gripping thriller that’s definitely worth a listen. My only gripe is that the automated voice doesn’t quite capture the emotion in some of the more intense moments.
