About this listen

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder....

Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery.

Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland - and for her nothing will ever be the same again. With overprotective relatives on one hand and the world's most erratic spouse on the other, Jenny needs to become someone. And fast!

Fans of Jodi Taylor's best-selling Chronicles of St. Mary's series will adore the quirky humour in this new, contemporary novel. Jodi Taylor, International Woman of Mystery, spent some time working undercover for North Yorkshire County Library Service. Heavily disguised as the world's most incompetent facilities manager, she shifted dead dogs, fell out of mobile libraries, and spent far too much time in the gents' toilets. The idea to rewrite history first came to her while studying history A level at an evening class.

Just One Damned Thing After Another is her first novel and was originally self-published as an ebook; it was downloaded by more than 60,000 readers on Amazon.

All around good story!

Any additional comments?

I wasnt sure at first if I should purchase this book, Mystical Horses? So glad I did. Forget your favorite genre and choose this book. I was pulled into there world from the begining and was entertained throughout the story. It is exactly what I look for in an audio book.

Absolutely magical!

I was completely taken away by the depth and heart of this book!

Not only was it quirky and charming, but also mysterious and shocking. There were so many surprises along the way, and everytime I thought I had a grasp on this story, something new and strange and exciting occurred that took my breath away.

I've been listening away, unable to stop, like an addict. The Nothing Girl was addicting and I loved it, and while I'm sad it's over, I'm very content with how everything ended.

Beautiful, magical, whimsical, crazy, amazing, quirky, charming, cute, fun, thoughtful, mysterious, and shocking!

You have to try it!

Happy listening ;)

Engaging

The story is wonderful. Made me laugh, made me cry, and made me fuming mad at the sometimes thick hero. The main character is really wonderful. She is full of emotional problems that could be really depressing, but her invisible friend keeps her amazingly balanced. I loved the story, always like this author, and loved the narration. Highly recommended!

Love!

This is such a great book! If you are a fan of the Jimmy Stewart movie Harvey then this is right up your alley. I laughed and I cried and in the end it is just a great read.

Exceptional

I overfilled and engrossing, this book had me in tears. It was so very good that I was limiting how much I listened to it to make it last longer. Superb.

Best read/listen of 2016

Lovely story of a young woman coming in to her own by fits and starts with a lovable band of misfits and a beautiful golden horse that only she can see. There are some truly funny moments -- lots of them actually -- and not a few touching ones as well. Ms. Price-Lewis renders the story with sensitivity and great good humour. Both she and author Jodi Taylor are at the top of my Automatic Buy list and will be for the foreseeable future.

Amazing!

I can't believe how good this story was. I was drawn in from the first paragraph all the way til the last. This is definitely worthy of a re-read.

Unusual story with lots of heart.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would, though I acknowledge that this book might not be for everyone. I would recommend this book because the style reminded me of Rosamunde Pilcher, but with a modern, magical-realism twist.

What did you like best about this story?

I love magical realism, mysteries, and books set in England. This had all three :)

What does Lucy Price-Lewis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narration is wonderful: she has such a lovely range of voices, and these really animated the characters. Also, her donkey impersonation is hilarious!
