About this listen

USA TODAY and ECPA bestselling series

Combine James Patterson and Colleen Hoover and you'll start to understand why audiences are riveted by the Murphy Shepherd series from New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin: gripping action, heart-wrenching emotion, and deep questions that deserve to be considered.

Bones—Murphy Shepherd's teacher, mentor, priest, and friend—is gone. Devastated by the loss and unsure how to continue the rescue work they started, Murph has no choice but to jump back in when the worst happens. His longtime friend and current United States vice president, Aaron Ashley, has been a silent partner in the fight against trafficking. But in spite of having the best security available, his three daughters have been taken bound and blindfolded from their home by an extraction team that left no clues and no trace—just an empty house, a bereft mother, and nine dead Secret Service agents. Only Murph and his team have a hope of finding them.

Bones may have made the ultimate sacrifice by taking down his own brother and the dark network he led, but there are still others in this network where evil is the currency and power is the prize. Soon Ashley drops out of the presidential race and a new candidate emerges--someone who is ready, too ready, to step into the race and the Oval Office.

Bones taught Murph that the needs of the one, the lost one, outweigh those of the ninety-nine. In his first rescue without Bones beside him, Murph's fight against human trafficking takes him across the globe and through the halls of government to destroy the network and save the lives and souls of those taken.

The Murphy Shepherd series is simultaneously a tender love story, a heartrending search for freedom, an exploration of the terrible cost of human trafficking, and an anthem to the power of love to create change when it shows up regardless of the cost. The Keeper raises the stakes even further, so be ready—you won't want to put it down until you reach the very last word.

What listeners say about The Keeper

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook, Part Of A Series, Continues The Story Of Murphy Shepherd And His Journey After Losing His Mentor Bones. While Praised For Its Gripping Narrative, Memorable Characters, And Powerful Storytelling With Beautiful Writing And Inspiring Themes, Some Listeners Felt It Contained Excessive Recaps And Repetitive Content From Previous Books. The Story Explores Themes Of Love, Sacrifice, Redemption, Hope, Overcoming Grief, Combating Human Trafficking, And Faith. However, Some Found The Plot Predictable And The Spiritual Elements Preachy At Times. Overall, It Seems To Be A Compelling Continuation Of The Series For Existing Fans, But May Not Work As Well As A Standalone Novel.

"The needs of the one outweigh those of the ninety nine." That's what still stands out.

I find myself in the shoes of the one and just like that God reaches down and picks me up and tells me I'm worth rescue! I enjoyed this book and as I read the story took me "on a ride not even Disney could imagine!" I feel it also somehow reached through time and space and healed a broken part of me I didn't know was there. Thank you for words that heal.

He left the 99 to find the one…

Charles Martin created Murph. Bones broke and molded him. Jonathon Riggs has outstandingly delivered each novel Martin has so graciously given us. I did not want this novel to end and hoping for The Peace Keeper. Just as the novels that have proceeded this one…It’s phenomenal!

Tell me about sheep

These books always hit home. My favorite line is “Tell me about sheep”… the flashbacks…hmmm. Great story.

The story of love is on every page!

The Keeper is the 4th book in the Keeper series. Returning trafficked children to the love of their parents is the theme of this book, along with love. Please read.

Charles Martin has done it again!

Oh my has the wait been worth it! The characters we know, we get more of with a few additions. The love exemplified before continues and I didn’t want it to end. When it did end I sat in my car and applauded in the parking lot at work. Lots of references to previous stories so do not just pick it up to read this one, read them all first. Let us all remember that the 1 is so worth fighting for!

First — but not last…

…Charles Martin for me. Found this number four of this particular series on Audible, read synopsis, reviews…and voila, a new author horizon to explore! Though I’d not read the other three before The Keeper, there were plenty of overlaps and reviews so I could happily read it as a stand alone novel. Some laughter, some tears, plenty of super-interesting, unusual chapters with a generous number of listening hours, which I always appreciate — IF the book is good, which this certainly is! Great characters, timely, unusual themes, excitement all peopled with some truly despicable bad guys and plenty of upright, courageous men and women sorting out Truth, Goodness, Honesty from evil, selfishness & debased, darkest actions. For me, there was one chapter that was poor: in my opinion, the matrimonial scene went on far too long, in far too much detail, word for word then wrapping back again on itself, reiterating! So, rather than strong, tender and holy as I’m quite sure the author wanted to convey, this long interlude was belabored and weakened — becoming rather a squirmy situation, such as when a pastor doesn’t know when the message has been delivered!

Wonderful twist

I don’t normally leave reviews because I’m not great at it. But this book had twists I didn’t see coming. I cried multiple times. I hope there’s a book 5

I couldn’t stop listening. It was the best one in the series so far. I can’t wait for the next one.
