About this listen

Set in a Norse-inspired world and packed with myth, magic, and vengeance, this epic saga follows a band of warriors as they face the wrath of ancient gods and change the shape of the world.

Lik-Rifa, the dragon god of legend, has been freed from her eternal prison. Now she plots a new age of blood and conquest.

As Orka continues the hunt for her missing son, the Bloodsworn sweep south in a desperate race to save one of their own - and Varg takes the first steps on the path of vengeance.

Elvar has sworn to fulfil her blood oath and rescue a prisoner from the clutches of Lik-Rifa and her dragonborn followers, but first she must persuade the Battle-Grim to follow her.

Yet even the might of the Bloodsworn and Battle-Grim cannot stand alone against a dragon god.

Their hope lies within the mad writings of a chained god. A book of forbidden magic with the power to raise the wolf god Ulfrir from the dead...and bring about a battle that will shake the foundations of the Earth.

fantastic!

This is the best second book of any series i’ve ever read (listened to?). It takes the existing story to all new levels, with exciting and unpredictable twists and satisfying character development. The disparate POV’s of the first book start to come together and interact. You begin to see how the many threads of this story weave together to create a single masterpiece. Like with the first book, the last few chapters feel like the crescendo that the story has been building to- the story arcs solidify, and the stage is set for the next book. You’re left both satisfied and begging for more.
If you're tired of the sausage-fest that is mainstream fantasy, here is a series for you. Excellent and diverse cast of female characters who are actual independent players in the story. They each with their own unique personality and backstory, and are treated as equals by both the cast of characters and the writer himself. Really refreshing to see in a genre that has been so dominated by tolkien-esque elven princesses.
The narrator seems to have picked up his game as well, with a wider variety of character voices. Will have to listen to it over again, since I binged it in only a few days. Book three can’t come fast enough!

I only have one criticism

I never write reviews, and I genuinely liked the book and enjoyed the performance. I am a fan of the author's earlier work. It's a book to be enjoyed and I look forward to the next one. My only criticism and it's a personal one and shouldn't put you off the book...but the constant use of the term "thought cage" was a bit wearing on my thought cage.

Continuation without Building

A good book, very similar to the first. While book 2 continues where book 1 left off the plot does not seem to grow which I would have like to see. Still worth the read/listen and will enjoy doing the same with the last book in the trilogy.

Good enough read

My main issue with this series is how transparent it is, most twists are predictable but still moderately satisfying. The characters are the gem of the series, Orka is amazing.
