About this listen

Born in fire. Tempered in blood.

Epheria is a land divided by war and mistrust. The High Lords of the South squabble and fight, only kept in check by the Dragonguard, traitors of a time long past, who serve the empire of the North.

In the remote villages of Southern Epheria, still reeling from the tragic loss of his brother, Calen Bryer prepares for The Proving - a test of courage and skill that not all survive. But when three strangers arrive in the village of Milltown, with a secret they are willing to die for, Calen’s world is ripped from under him and he is thrust headfirst into a war that has been raging for centuries.

There is no prophecy. His coming was not foretold. He bleeds like any man, and bleed he will.

Includes bonus story The Fall.

I love this series so far....and THE FALL novella is included at the end of the narration. You will fall in love with the characters, the dragons, the families, the magic, and the story. Ready to read all 5 now!
Regarding The Fall novella included at the end of book one:
OMG!!!! The Fall is So good! What a moving story, beautifully written, betrayal by loved ones, gut wrenching hurt by this betrayal, makes one think, read this after book one, explains so much that I wanted to know, die well, live better, rakeena (Broken) not all have the strength to become “broken”… I pray you never understand why I have no choice , some lose too much. imagine this happening to you. What a great novella. 5⭐️

The Fall Novella is included at the end

Great beginning

Never a dull moment in this fantastic new world. The characters feel real. The battle scenes make you feel like you are there, and the narrator does a fantastic job of putting emotions into his performance.

Action packed, great characters, awesome story.

A good start to an intriguing series. I will continue on with this at some point.

Generic dragon fantasy story, however written with quality prose and the voice actor performed phenomenally. Altogether don’t regret spending the time reading it, though I don’t think I care to pick up book two.
Here’s why:
The worldbuilding and all major plots lack originality.
Better pacing than eragon but somehow less creative. Dragon and rider relationship was underwhelming in comparison to Inheritance Cycle’s intriguing take on dragons and their riders, which is the only reason that series is worth reading- I didn’t encounter a redeeming quality like that in this book.
Imagine the most generic fantasy world with elves dwarves and dragons, with the most basic soft magic system, and it’s a coming of age story where- you guessed it- the village boy MC finds a dragon egg and becomes important and powerful. If you’re into reading fantasy familiarities like dwarves that hide in mountains and uptight elves that train and baby silly little humans, this is a good read. Just pales in comparison to any other world built with the same building blocks that I’ve encountered.
I really think this author is a good writer just not creative enough, too generic for my taste. Again, really good prose, imagine if it were used to write a story that I HAVENT read before. Some indie writers you just nod and say “nice try keep on trying,” but inside you know they are hopelessly poor writers. That’s not the case with Ryan Cahill. His writing has potential he just lacks creativity in this story, would be willing to give another read a shot someday should he launch a book with a more original concept!

Entertaining voice actor but underwhelming story

Well written, fluid illuminating prose, characters are real and you understand their struggles, pain, and joys without it being overwritten. Background history not overly explained but nuggets dropped along the way keeping the mystery and the reader wanting more. One of the best series I’ve listened to in a while. I just might finish the series instead of only getting 2/3rds through book two before getting bored.

Awesome Prose

Love this series so much. Re reading now. Book one doesn’t shine as bright as the later books for me, but it’s perfect in its own right

Cozy fantasy for people who enjoy things

I was bored. I finished the book, but I couldn’t tell you anything about it. It was noise in the background, even though I was actively listening.
I don’t know if it is the author or the narrator, but I just could not care about anyone or anything in the story.

Bored the whole time
