About this listen

Jack London wrote this celebrated novel in 1903. It's considered one of his best stories and has become one of the world's most popular American classics. The Call of the Wild is the thrilling story of Buck, a domestic dog from California kidnapped and thrust into the harsh, physical world of the Yukon, a land of danger and ferocity, a land of wolves, blizzards, and treacherous frozen rivers that swallow up entire dog teams. Here is where Buck must learn to survive. He must become as wild and vicious as the wilderness that surrounds him...or die!(P)Books in Motion Action & Adventure Classics

Halfway through the audio book I could hear a sound in the back ground like a CD spinning in the machine.

I read this book back in high school in the early 60's. The narrator bothered me at first but he got better as the book progressed. Dog and animal lover that I am, parts of it made me cry, literally. It's an excellent classic book. I'm glad I purchased it and may read it again sometime. It's excellent but some things hard to listen to for those of us who never in a thousand years mistreat a dog. If you are a dog or animal lover, buy the book. I never read books that are only 3+ hours long but this is an exception to that. Well done. I will probably read it again sometime. You won't be sorry you bought it.This book is a long time classic and worth reading.

I'd Forgotten How Good This Is

This is an old book and one once considered a classic for children. Brutal beatings of animals and savage animal fighting. Survival of the fittest seems to be the main theme. Better to let it fade into literary history.

Childrens Classic?

I chose this book as a 'classic' to add to my library. It is hard to read about any animal being abused and I had a hard time getting through it because of that.
It's not the kind of book that will leave you with a good feeling or even a greater understanding - it's just a story that focuses on the brutality of humans and animals.
I understand that some may find the story being told entirely through Buck's (the dog) perspective interesting but that did not make it worth the sadness I was left with at the end.

More Brutal Than I Remembered

Outdated and poor storytelling. Waste of time. Dead classic. Don't read this, rather choose something else.
