About this listen

First published in 1884, Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is among the first novels in American literature to be written throughout in vernacular English. Some have called it the first Great American Novel, and the book has become required reading in many schools throughout the United States.

The story is set along the Mississippi River in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Arkansas around 1840. It depicts the development of Huckleberry (Huck) Finn, a boy about thirteen years old. Huck has to find a way between his belief in the right thing to do and what most do believe to be wrong.

Language

Must have been remarkable in its time. "N" word wss stinging but the humor was delightful. I enjoyed the experience

Great classic

It’s a classic for a reason. Love the wittiness and imagination of this boy. So cute how he ties the story together.

Huckleberry Finn

I mostly enjoyed the personable characters Twain writes in this enjoyable classic. And hearing the reader portray them so well made listening quite enjoyable.

I liked it better 20 years ago.

Huck has a heart of gold. Jim does too. Good hearts find trouble when they fall prey to rotten ones like Tom, the duke, and the king

Good Story. Authentic language.

The story was good. The pace was slow and it dragged in parts. A lot of detail was given to developing the characters. The reader was mediocre. The use of the N word was disturbing but reflective of the times. Very authentic.
