Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Story
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Feel like you don’t belong? You’re not alone. The world has never been more connected, yet people are lonelier than ever. Whether we feel unworthy, alienated, or anxious about our place in the world, the absence of belonging is the great silent wound of our times. Most people think of belonging as a mythical place, and they spend a lifetime searching for it in vain. But what if belonging isn’t a place at all? What if it’s a skill that has been lost or forgotten? With her signature depth and eloquence, Toko-pa maps a path to belonging from the inside out.

Calming and Helpful
Kendyl’s therapeutic art directives, poetry, and her own story are brought to life in this audiobook version of her book. It is certainly a great addition to her hardcover copy, and will help guide people in her art therapy directives in unique and calming ways!

“There is no wrong or right way, just enjoy the process”
These exercises were so pleasant to listen to; calming, relaxing, and each intention prepares you physically and spiritually for each activity. The activities are very clear on what supplies are needed and what the purpose of the intentions are. I also like that there are components of meditation before you start an activity.

A powerful guide to emotional wellness through art
This audiobook is a must-listen for anyone who is interested in exploring the healing power of art.
The book is divided into chapters that focus on different emotions, such as anxiety and grief, and the author introduces a series of art therapy exercises that are specifically designed to help individuals process and cope with that particular emotion.
What I particularly enjoyed about the exercises is the variety of art mediums that are covered - there is truly something for everyone. The author also provides helpful tips and guidance for each exercise, which makes it easy for listeners to follow along and create their own works of art. Also, the exercises are accessible and can be completed by anyone, regardless of their skill level.
Overall, "The Art Therapy Way" is a great introduction into applied art therapy that combines the power of art with the healing process. The author's approach is thoughtful, compassionate, and informative, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in exploring the therapeutic benefits of art.

Well written!
This audiobook is the perfect companion for the physical copy. I loved hearing the meditations at the beginning of each chapter read aloud so that I could relax. The questions for reflection at the end of each exercise are also easier to process when heard in someone else’s voice! It’s also such a small detail, but I love how the audiobook chapters have page numbers to follow along with. It’s clear the author has a great attention to detail and passion for helping people. She opens each exercise with a reminder that there is no judgment or right/wrong way to do art. It is such a difficult thing for me to remember as I judge my art so harshly. Each exercise is so carefully crafted. My favorite was the postcard for forgiveness, something I really struggle with. I also like how the author draws out the possibility of future change in the exercises - such as the collage to analyze what things we want more or less of in our lives, or the tri fold self portrait and taking steps to see how we can become someone we like. Overall so encouraging and soothing!

Sacred Space
I first got The Art Therapy Way as a hard copy and after realizing there are meditations at the beginning of each chapter, I was interested in hearing the meditations as guided meditations.
This audiobook did NOT disappoint!! :) The narrator does such a great job of sharing the story that Kendyl Arden wrote and her voice is so calming. It's a great compliment to The Art Therapy Way hard copy!
Enjoy your Sacred Space!

A Great Experience
This audiobook is very well done! There is a wide variety of art activities suited for any type of emotion we may feel. Kendyl does a great job constructing this book in a way that gives you the opportunity to be kind to yourself and get in tune with your emotions. The way each activity includes breathing and affirmations to become grounded and give yourself permission to create is a great touch. Along with Rebecca’s narration, the audiobook feels very calming and meditative. Additionally, the pace of the narration feels just right, as it didn’t feel too fast or too slow. In each introduction, I appreciated Kendyl’s inclusion of her poetry as it kind of sets the tone for each chapter. The reflection questions at the end of each activity is a great way to think about what was created, what you felt while doing so, and to center yourself again. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook very much and am looking forward to going back to these activities whenever I need to. Definitely recommend!
