About this listen

Why some of the apostles proclaimed "another Jesus" than the one proclaimed by Paul? The ancient sources available today prove that the resurrected Messiah ruled in Jerusalem for a short while, until he was murdered for a second time by his opponents. But who was this person? King of the Jews? Fighter for freedom and justice? Innocent victim? Man or God? How did Jesus become the one in whose name the world's largest religion was founded? His believers waited impatiently for him to lead them in the task of establishing the Kingdom of Israel and, indeed, Jesus promised to his followers the founding of Messianic rule on Earth during their lifetime: "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." Our enquiry reconstructs the possibility that the promise to restore the Kingdom of Israel was fulfilled. Analyzing the ancient sources from a new point of view, this did indeed happen. In a Jerusalem liberated from Roman rule stood a “Messiah-King” – if only for a short while – until he was murdered by his opponents. His followers were scattered to every wind and each group of them struggled in its own way with the unbearable anger and frustration that followed the awful downfall – a downfall that happened just as the dream had materialized. For some of them, the killing of their Messiah put an end to the dream of national redemption in their lifetime; for others, who accepted the belief in a divine Messiah as a substitute for a flesh-and-blood Messiah, this was the beginning of a new religion.
