About this listen

Why Switzerland? It’s simply one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Its mountainous scenery is legendary. Why train? There are many reasons. Switzerland is a small country well suited to train travel. It has a great transportation system, (not just trains). It’s a great way to travel for those who prefer not to drive in a foreign country, (everyone can relax and enjoy the scenery). Many villages and even larger towns and cities are better experienced on foot, or by local public transportation. Where trains can’t take you, there’s always a bus, boat, gondola, tram etc. waiting right outside the train station or nearby, to take you to a remote village, to the top of a mountain, on a lake cruise, or to other points of interest. There also are many train, boat and bus journeys in Switzerland, such as the Glacier Express, the Bernina Express and the Golden Line Express that make traveling from one destination to another a joy and an adventure. In each itinerary, we’ve knitted together destinations with one or more of these amazing journeys. My wife and I have traveled in Switzerland by train five times in recent years and never regretted our decision. We’ve learned that we prefer spending three to five days in each area we visit. We find it more relaxing to operate out of one location, taking excursions and traveling lightly, with just a daypack, as we radiate out from our base. With that in mind, we’ve created three itineraries that cover much of this amazing country. The itineraries overlap so that you can customize your trip. We’ve also created a fourth itinerary, (the whole enchilada), that covers all three itineraries in case you want to go wild and see the whole country in one trip. For each stop, in each itinerary, we’ve provided detailed information on excursion options we think will give you experiences you’ll remember always. With the help of this book, you can do this. Hop aboard! Europe Transportation Switzerland
