Each of us has experienced, at least once in his life, the feeling of awakening, as if he had been dreaming a moment before, like when we stop being lost in thought and return with our attention turned outward. The reality is that we live in a state of unconsciousness, but we believe we are awake; we believe we are the ones making decisions, but the truth is something else. Whenever we worry about what to eat, how to love, or simply how to be happy, we are worrying about how to lead a good life. No goal is more elusive. In How to Be a Stoic, philosopher Massimo Pigliucci offers Stoicism, the ancient philosophy that inspired the great emperor Marcus Aurelius, as the best way to attain it. Stoicism is a pragmatic philosophy that teaches us to act depending on what is within our control and separate things worth getting upset about from those that are not.

Life happens. You can’t control every factor that brings about the chain of events you experience. What you can control are your emotions and reactions, and this makes it impossible for your circumstances to dictate your experience of life. This is the central philosophy of stoicism…and you’re about to unlock its potential to transform your experience. This guide will be by your side every step of the way. If your life feels out of control right now, it’s time to make a change. And that change doesn’t mean trying to control what’s happening to you.

Looking forward for more books from this author.
There are many nuggets of wisdom in it that give me the opportunity to dwell upon them. For example, “If a seed that never becomes a tree can be said to have failed in its nature, so too can a person who never develops morally be said to have failed.” The book is littered with great quotes that will appeal to any personalities. One of my favorite is, “For the Stoics, Author did a great job, Looking forward for more books from this author.

Helps you live a happier life.
Being the owner of 2 companies, one being one of the largest high-end limousine companies in the country. I have heard many self help speakers and read many books. I had also heard a lot about Stoicism which from day one impacted me more than anything else in the past. Now coming across this book was a pleasure and a blessing in itself. Scott was able to concise centuries of such wonderful philosophies in one book where he makes it easy to see it through his eyes and understand the essence of what being a stoic is all about. Most importantly, how we can learn from it and apply it in our everyday life.
