Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

Story
It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

The dense Michigan forest. Haunting wails. The clip-clop of demon hooves on a bridge to nowhere. It’s more than a tall tale to Brenda Jennings, whose sister disappeared in those woods one fateful night. Three years later, on a solo stakeout in the dark, Brenda goes in after her. She’s desperate for answers, and terrified to find what lies waiting on the other side of that bridge.

Story
Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it's served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don't knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing what's buried in the Morrows' backyard. But 19-year-old Michael Morrow isn't like the rest of his family. He doesn't take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees.

It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.

Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Not What I Expected; It Was Better
Story – 5/5
Narration – 5/5
“Stirring the Sheets” by Chad Lutzke is a very sad story about an old mortician who so misses his dead wife that he does something very weird.
As weird as this was, this is the most believable “weird" story I’ve read. The characters were very likeable and real, especially the MC.
Not what I expected; it was better.
The narrator was the perfect choice for this story!
WARNING! This is NOT EXTREME! But if the idea of corpses bothers you… don’t read Horror! 😄

Sad Tale of Loneliness and Loss
This was a sad story of a man grieving the loss of his wife. I have not lost a wife before but this seemed all too realistic which made it that much more depressing. Definitely well told and worth a listen if you are in a somber mood. Obviously, at some point it takes a turn and gets a bit creepy but thankfully nothing to perverse. Michael Gwynne did an excellent job with the narration. His voice was perfect for this story and definitely added to the somber feeling. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Cool
Amazing performance. Gwynne truly captured the tone of the novel.
The story was amazing, well written with no fluff. I liked how everything written was essential to the story. Emmet was a great character that I actually cared about, I felt what he felt. And this is a book I will be revisiting in the future. Nothing to complain about.
