For years, pilots who merely looked like soldiers were adequate. They filled the mechs. They filled roles. They supported Spann and his genetic offshoot of pure-blooded warriors known as the Superba. Spann's dream of absolute power ends with a single, crushing blow as a new enemy strikes at the Realm, leaving no survivors—followed by a mad dash to find fighters who can stand up in the old ways, using the mechs gifted to humanity by their oldest allies. Laric Mason has long evaded the grand expectations set before him by his grandmother. Engaged in the rudimentary spellslips and basics of mage magic at his local school, he intentionally conceals his true abilities. Public recognition would only bring unwanted responsibility and the threat of a transfer to the prestigious Mage Academy. When a devastating dragon assault from the neighboring realm of Korthal lays waste to his village, Laric's world is turned upside down. With his home in ruins and his loved ones lost, he and his friends are all that stand against further invasions.

My name is James Thorne, and I wasn't supposed to matter. Before the invasion, I was just a guy in a dead-end job, keeping my head down and my past buried. The Gehenna want our annihilation. Thankfully, they angered the Aetherion who may help humanity not only fight back, but turn the tide. When I’m offered the chance to be Cleansed, to become something more than I was, I take it. And it turns out I’m special. No, I’m not the Chosen One. And yes, there are others like me, but as a Psyker, I can do things most can't. Things that make me very dangerous.

Story
When professional magician Max is guided through a portal by a mysterious book from his past, it makes sense that he's classed as a Magician in this game-like fantasy world. As a workaholic and a loner, his career has been his life thus far, so why wouldn't it continue to be? But then his Soul Merge fails, and the System decides to find a compromise, classing him as something weirder: a Demonic Magician. Armed with a card deck of new tricks, his showmanship skills, and the power to summon demons, Max is ready to fight his way through this realm of pink slimes, monsters and opposing Players.

Story
Orodan was an orphaned street rat who clawed his way to the county militia with hard work. When calamitous events unfold and draw him into events bigger than himself, Orodan's battle-loving disposition leads to a warrior's death. Then he wakes up again at the start of the Cataclysm. Then again. And again. In a world of skills, titles, and blessings, a smart time-looper would perhaps scheme, plan, amass equipment, and allies. But not Orodan. If there's one thing he's good at, it's stubbornly trying the same thing over and over again via brute force till it's done.

Story
Maxim Volt worked very hard NOT to become the local madman. He didn’t plot doom upon his enemies (even when they deserved it). He didn’t stitch together monsters with parts 'recycled' from the local graveyard. Why, he barely allowed himself a maniacal laugh or two! And yet, he still somehow ended up getting kicked out of university, banished from the family estate, and inheriting a decrepit castle high in the mountains of Eastern Europe, complete with a spooky but devoted maid.

Story
Thea is a washed-up mimic exterminator who expected more out of life, not some hero from stories. Aven is an impulsive wandering adventurer whose personal goddess is constantly getting her into trouble. Neither of them has the slightest interest in getting involved in world-shaking historical events. History doesn't care what they want, unfortunately. It's fallen right into their laps in the shape of a god-slaying weapon from a fallen civilization. Thrown together out of chance, Thea and Aven will have to learn to work together if they want to survive their pursuers.

Story
The System is here! Most of the population of the planet were suddenly turned into zombies, while the rest acquired new abilities. Abilities that let them run from the zombies, save themselves, hide, and try to survive. But it only takes one bite that almost always means death. Our hero was standing in line when the apocalypse came. He was lucky at first to be caught in a crowd when the zombies tried to bite him on the leg. Really lucky, because those trials unlocked new abilities for him.

Over the centuries, these outlaws have banded together to form communities, basic infrastructure, and even religion. Out of this forsaken place, a hero will arise, and a secret will emerge that could devastate the pampered lives of those on the surrounding planets and the entire realm. Some are eager to take advantage.

After the majority of his body is destroyed during a high-risk operation, Aiden Thorn is subjected to an experimental, potentially lifesaving procedure… one he never tacitly agreed to undergo. Story
Mason the survivalist was always preparing for the end of the world. He just didn’t expect a god-like AI to transform it into a damn video game. Now he has to pick a ‘class’, survive a ‘tutorial’ (filled with monstrous creatures trying to murder him), and somehow find his brother Blake before the idiot gets himself killed. OK. Blake’s no idiot. He’s a charming, incredibly lucky, ambitious world-beater. But he was destined for corporate boardrooms, not monster filled forests, and Mason knows he needs to reach him before it’s too late.

It's A Great Hero's Journey of Internal Dialogue
First, you may not like the narration. It's interesting. I'm used to Mark Boyett, Jeffrey K. etc. BUT I think the narrator nailed the true tone that a UPS driver with depth would have if he was flung into the future and needed to learn how to wield a sword.
Second, the story line was the hero's journey the way I like. It's all about his internal dialogue as he grapples with the circumstances he's thrown into.
I think you need to be in the right mood to truly enjoy this book. There is times I want Backyard Starship type of dialogue and action and other times I want to ride along with the hero hearing his thoughts and wondering if I would react the same way.
I can't wait for the next book. And yes, I can't wait to hear this narrator again. :-)

Slow to start.
Not like other Chaney Moon collaborations. I’m glad I stuck with it. As expected it was very well written. The story definitely ramps up across the entire book. I cannot wait for the second book.

Just boring
Just boring and The MC is stupid. Earth gets invaded, humanity gets demolished by aliens. MC gets thrown 3000 years into the future and immediately works for the people responsible for killing off humanity. I finished it because I spend money on it, but it was a struggle to get through.

Slow start, fractured progression
The authors start with a Earth apocalyptic event, a MC thrust into future 3.5 millennial later and stumbling through 6 chapters with mostly inane dialog and inner turmoil trying to talk to his wonder sword/blade. The narrator comes across as an unbiased observer, speaking with little enthusiasm.
I was unable to finish the book.
