About this listen

Riko's a very angry young man; just having discovered that he was brought into this world as a result of his mother being raped by her boss when she was sixteen years old. As a young teenager, Riko develops into a very prolific singer and songwriter, but being neglected by his mother - an aspiring model now turned chronic alcoholic, he begins hanging out with a group of Rastafarian musicians. His extraordinary talent quickly impresses the group, who promotes him to lead singer. After a couple of impressive local performances, the group records their first single for gangster producer Jawbone Black. Riko, however, quickly becomes frustrated by his slow success in the business, and when he subsequently discovers that his recording for Jawbone Black was a big hit in England, in an angry rage, he goes after Jawbone with a gun. But Riko, being naïve and inexperienced in these matters, is no match for Jawbone and his goons, and ends up narrowly escaping with his life. Knowing he’s a dead man, Riko steals out of the city to join his mother in the countryside. Riko's life, however, is destined to change significantly, when a beautiful young woman by the name of Sunshine moves into the house next door, and they hit it off instantly. Hiding away from the limelight, Riko’s dream of becoming a star is slowly fading, and just when he’s about to throw in the towel, he receives news that Jawbone has been arrested and charged with murder. An elated Riko packs up and heads back into the city where he resumes his music career. He records his first album, which becomes an immediate success. But just as Riko's career begins to take off, tragedy suddenly strikes in his life. With Sunshine being a tower of strength in his life, he manages to overcome many other adversities, including going to war against a rogue cop turned drug don. And the rest is history, as they say; Riko continues with his career, and goes on to become an international reggae icon. Young Adult Celebrity War City
