About this listen

A lost ship - a new world

Urban is no longer master of the fearsome starship Dragon. Driven out by the hostile, godlike entity, Lezuri, he has taken refuge aboard the most distant vessel in his outrider fleet.

Though Lezuri remains formidable, he is a broken god, commanding only a fragment of the knowledge that once was his. He is desperate to return home to the ring-shaped artificial world he created at the height of his power, where he can recover the memory of forgotten technologies.

Urban is desperate to stop him. He races to reach the ring-shaped world first, only to find himself stranded in a remote desert, imperiled by a strange flood of glowing "silver" that rises in the night like fog - a lethal fog that randomly rewrites the austere, Earthlike landscape. He has only a little time to decipher the mystery of the silver and to master its secrets. Lezuri is coming - and Urban must level up before he can hope to vanquish the broken god.

Linda writes like the classical science fiction authors, but with more heart then many. Exploring the big ideas, but not forgetting about the characters and their differences.
I put her work up there with CJ Cherry, Roger Z., Gregory Benford, although perhaps a little less twisty than some of Rogers more political stories.

I have read several of her short stories in the past, which was why I was willing to pick up this series when I first came across it. And I have not been disappointed.

This continues the story started in the first book—the journeys of the explorers, going back to find out what happened to the origins of humanity. Though this time they are sidetracked by their war with God like beings wielding devastating Nanotech, on an impossible planet. Much of the perspective is given through the eyes of some of the more advanced inhabitants of that world, and many world-shattering things are learned by all.
Good stuff!

The narration was also very good. Although I do wish Nicole would learn the pronunciation of certain words, like “cache”.

Excellent post human hard sci-fi

Edges was so good, and this was not. Edges had a compelling story that took a bit of time to get up to speed but delivered a satisfying conclusion. Silver started slow and just got slower.

Who ever put this together needs to go back to audio production school. The narrator’s ignorance of basic English terms really started getting on my nerves the longer this story dragged on. For instance “Corsair” is pronounced course-air, not “Courser.” “Cached” is not pronounced sashayed. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point.

Now I wish I had not purchased the rest of the series.

Serious disappointment.
