About this listen

Charley is a cleaner by day and a professional gambler by night. She might be haunted by her tragic past but she's never thought of herself as anything or anyone special. Until, that is, things start to go terribly wrong all across the city of Manchester. Between plagues of rats, firestorms, and the gleaming blue eyes of a sexy Scottish werewolf, she might just have landed herself in the middle of a magical apocalypse. She might also be the only person who has the ability to bring order to an utterly chaotic new world.

I could not instant some of the words Ruth Urquhart said. And needed to go back and forth to understand what was being said

Good book but the accent of the reader is so strong

This story has a solid start but no bite. The world is well thought out but the characters tend to be under developed. The performance was very well done and flowed very well. I am going to give book 2 a try and see how our writer does.

Of killing the little brother? I found that aspect of the story to be troubling and unnecessary.

What was the point

It’s early days in the story (which is pretty interesting so far), but WHAT ON EARTH IS UP WITH BLUE HAIR FIXATION? As if color one’s hair any color is an indicator of intelligence? Is this dude from the 1950’s or something?

I mean seriously, it takes a considerable lack of intellect, emotional and otherwise, to believe this kind of insult is ACTUALLY insulting, much less acceptable in any way. Insulting a woman based on her her body and clothing is the quickest way to become ignored in my book, as those types of insults are not worth acknowledgment, much less a response..

As a woman who has had blue hair on and off during her life, I can say only 1 person ever insulted it. Yes it was a white man (I mean, who else should go there?).

Otherwise, the story is pretty interesting. My husband (from Oz) is laughing at the Bunyip and Vegemite obsession (he finds it a little trite).

I’ll update here once the story is done!

Still mid-listen but I’m kinda enjoying it!

Shrill Disk by Helen Harper and narrated by Ruth Urquhart is a story about magic and how magic and a magical object helped take over a city! The magic transformed people into all types of creatures! There are plenty of side stories going on too. This is the story of Charlie as she is right in the middle of this magical mayhem! Great magical fun and disasters!
Narration was excellent!

A Magical city, literally!

I was listening to this book on Audible then decided to get it in ebook too. It was real fun to listen AND read it.

lets hear it for Helen Harper

Although some of her characters go too far with the pacifist, non-violence, love thy neighbor stance for the FMC, I typically like Helen Harper’s books; however, this one was just infuriating. The FMC was so self-important, narcissistic, naive, and just plain stupid that I was truly hoping she would die and Monroe would be the main character for the next two books in the series. Since she made it out alive, I will not be listening to the next two books in the series. I couldn’t wait for this book to end.

Frustrating
