About this listen

One night with a superpowered babe. Alan Star thinks he's the luckiest guy in the world, but fantasy turns into nightmare when a late-night meetup with a heroine turns deadly. To the dismay of the powers-in-charge, Alan has stumbled upon the dirty truth behind the squeaky-clean image of the hero business. Soon, everyone from government black ops to angry superpowered flames want to shut him up. Permanently. With nowhere else to run, Alan escapes to the one place that the heroes won't go: the underground world of a fabled hero-killer. There, he discovers the key to becoming the greatest hero of all. Alan will have to gain new powers, seduce even more superpowered babes, and face the true menace lurking in the shadows. Witness the birth of the Red Light Hero. Warning: This book contains diverse adult situations and possibly unwholesome interactions such as superpowered flings, polyamory, and biology experiments gone wild. Think the Avengers meets Fifty Shades of Grey. This book also contains light gamelit mechanics in the final act. the virtual narration is horrible!

Good story that was made absolutely worse by the drab, dull, choppy narration. I made a commitment to myself to power through anything I purchased or Inwould have returned this in tye 1st chapter.

Fun, but I've read better.

Reminiscent of the "Secret World Chronicles" by Mercedes Lackey, et al. There are some important differences, though.
The plot is OK, but it's hard to detect any personality for any of the characters. The hero can resist anything except temptation, but neither can most of the other characters. Still, it's kind of a fun read...

This was actually pretty good

I was pleasantly surprised with this audiobook... it kinda reminded me of "The Boys" TV series. The story was intriguing and kept me entertained the entire way. The virtual narrator was not great but it was actually better than a some human narrators I've heard. It was clear and easy to understand.

If you like "The Boys", I recommend you check out this book.

virtual voice sucks

If you want a reading that is completely unemotional, where everyday words are mispronounced, and the emphasis structure of most sentences makes no sense at all, then Virtual Voice is for you. Honestly, virtual voice is the biggest mistake audible has ever made. It completely ruins the book.

better than expected

the beginning is pretty good the middle not too bad the end kind of drags along. I kind of hoped that the main character would kind of man up a little bit more. but all in all not of that story. I do hope the altar will make a second book

The auto-generated narration is too distracting...

The auto-generated narration is too distracting. The story is ok, but the whole thing would have been a lot better with an actor as narrator who could really capture the dialog.

Pretty meh

Decent enough not to give any real complaints. Final chapters that were supposted to be the climax were boring. Finished it, but not gonna remember it.

Needs a real narrator

Virtual voice is so emotionless it detracts terribly from the story😭. I would give this book a higher score if it had a real Person reading it who could express themselves.

Great story

It's clear the author took time developing each character, they all feel genuinely unique with their own motivations and fears. The software used to actually narrate the story is a little wonky at times, but honestly doesn't detract from the overall story.
