About this listen

Most people don’t take a moment to step back and think about the stories they tell themselves. They have been fed stories by their parents, the media, and their peers, but don’t see the connection between these stories and their place in life.

If your life isn’t going where you want it, you are in a job or a relationship that doesn’t bring you joy, and your life story is not working the way you desire, then this audiobook is for you.

By bringing attention to the stories we tell ourselves, we can empower and lift ourselves out of negative thoughts and destructive behaviors that are keeping us down. This means taking personal responsibility for our decisions, actions, the way we spend our time, and the way we look at life.

Life is abundant and full of opportunity to find success - whatever success means to you - but if we are not careful about the stories we tell ourselves, the most oppressive force in life can come from our own minds.

This book will teach you about the science, spiritualism, philosophy, and reasoning behind the stories you tell yourself and give you the tools to revise those stories so that they can positively impact your life and help you reach your potential.

If Earl Nightingale were alive today, this would be the book he'd write. While many of the concepts weren't new to me (I've probably read over a hundred self-help books in my life), the analogy with software is new and refreshing. My best advice to get the most from this book is to put aside everything you think you already know and listen with a beginner's mind. The author's opinions and political views occasionally come out, and it's to be expected you won't agree with all of them. But get beyond your own ego and remember that not everyone agrees with your opinion either.

I'd also go so far as to say it's a more practical alternative (or companion) to '12 Rules for Life.'

At the very end of the book (as well as several of the chapters), the author does a great job of summarizing the tools and saves us (the reader) the time of having to go back and reread it for the key takeaways.
