About this listen
The terrifying truth is…
Everything you “know” about yourself today is based on who you decided you were when you were just four or five years old.
In your childhood you formed decisions about yourself before you were even capable of thinking logically. Those decisions were based on a child’s emotional survival brain, and they are the foundation of the neural pathways of thought and feelings that are instrumental in forming your identity, both positive AND negative. This is why so many people have challenges in their adult lives, especially when it comes to their personal and professional relationships.
Luckily, this can all be changed. In The Monster Under the Bed: Uncovering the Lie That Drives Us, Kim reveals how to spot the monster tracks that are lurking in our own psyches and lifts up the bed skirt, exposing what we thought was a monster as nothing more than dust bunnies and empty space that can now be filled with a whole new perception of yourself.

You'll never see leadership the same way again after reading this book. These 15 commitments are a distillation of decades of work with CEOs and other leaders. They are radical or provocative for many. They have been game changers for us and for our clients. We trust they will be for you too. Our experience is that unconscious leadership is not sustainable. It won't work for you, your team, or your organization in the long term.

Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

So glad I found this book
i've always been the kind of person that needs to know the why behind things in order to fix them or make them better. This book gave me a ton of whys. I initially bought it here on Audible but I also ordered a hardcopy because the information is so powerful that I wanted to be able to read it and really let it sink in. I can't wait to get to work on uncovering my monsters.

Now I “know”...
I’d say this is a must listen/read for anyone who wants to personally grow, authentically becoming their true self and for those of us who want to then assist others. Kim easily explains science through stories. I had several ‘ah-ha’ moments. She’s easy to listen to and I hear ‘grace’ in her voice. I’m a personal growth junkie and coach as well. I will be using Kim’s book and tools personally and for my clients. Thank you!
