Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

The Kabbalah is divided into three branches—the theoretical, the meditative, and the magical. While many books, both in Hebrew and English, have explored the theoretical Kabbalah, very little has been published regarding the meditative methods of the various schools of Kabbalah. Aryeh Kaplan's landmark work reveals the methodology of the ancient Kabbalists and stresses the meditative techniques that were essential to their discipline, including:

Guilt inducing and no creativity in solutions offered.
This book started good for me, but as I was progressing in it, I felt like was an intense use of guilt inducing words and ideas for how much we are messing up our children life. Lost of detrimental words to describe how we, the care givers and/ or parents are hurting our kids without explaining the “why”. There’s plenty of examples of what we should not do, and they are all quite obvious, but not that much of examples of what we should do in specific situations, and how can we possibly repair. There are many books that offer a repair, but this book makes you feel like you are a criminal parent if you don’t control your emotions at all times and how traumatic it is to your kids (which again, truly trivial and obvious…but where it the actual positive solutions?!?)
It is an example of how going to a theta can be completely ineffective, the fact that it was written by a therapist doesn’t mean it’s an effective book.
The idea of kindness and compassion are not new, and also have nothing to do with Judaism.
I was expecting to read about solutions that can compliment my religious beliefs.
The book contains many phrases in Hebrew that no person that doesn’t speak Hebrew will understand, which is also kinda wired and upsetting.
