About this listen
Stories contained in this third volume:
"A Long Way From Name Pending":
A traveler from the future is shot and killed in the town of Name Pending, leaving behind a small triangular prism containing a composite of all the collected known knowledge of the twenty-second century. Mr. Seven and most of the townspeople will seemingly stop at nothing to possess it.
"Subterranean Sojourn":
Mr. Seven journeys deep beneath the earth's surface in a boring capsule in search of gold. He and the other expedition members stumble upon the ruins of an ancient civilization. Opposing them are winged apes, an underground-river serpent and malign spirits belonging to an extinct race of people.
"Rise of the Electro-Powered Rustlers":
Mr. Seven, in need of cheap labor to work in his mines, commissions Potbury to resurrect brains that can be inserted into automaton bodies. The automaton laborers work well at first but soon rebel and start new lives as cattle rustlers.
"A Hanging to Remember":
A man who is publicly hanged somehow shows signs of still being alive in the morning. Townspeople gather to stare in amazement. It soon becomes apparent to the mayor and others that they have a lucrative money-making attraction on their hands. Their greed is such that they adamantly refuse to release the condemned man even when evidence of his innocence is brought to their attention.
"Into the Valley of Nightmares":
A stagecoach containing a strong-box with a fortune in gold overturns in a valley near the town of Alemania. Local lawmen and others find it impossible to retrieve the strong-box, as they are inexplicably bombarded by horrific nightmares whenever they come near the strong-box. Something or someone in that valley has telepathic abilities beyond anything known on earth.
